Our adaptive workshop in action!
Very excited to update we have been able to hire Sam to work in our adaptive workshop in Haiti. Sam is a very hard working and faith filled young man that is so happy to be a part of our team. It has been amazing to see how God has provided and allowed this once vision to become a reality. We hope to be a place where we can continue to train more locals in this much needed skill, but for now we are pleased that we can start to try and meet the needs of our community. Sam is learning to modify/build wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, standers, bucket chairs and adaptive equipment to allow our patient's to return to their independence with daily activities. Check out this recent video of the incredible work that has been done through our workshop. Thank you to all who have helped make this a reality.
I will be back in Haiti in October. Some goals during that time are to help establish a speech therapy program. We have been blessed with some incredible speech volunteers and hope that we will be able to train a local to carry over these skills. Speech therapy is non existent in Haiti but is so needed. After seeing what a trained SLP was able to do in two weeks for our patients we have been working towards this goal. We hope to help pave the way to make speech therapy a service available to those in need. We also are working towards establishing a gym on the grounds where locals can come work out, learn how to eat healthy and promote multiple daily exercise classes.
I will be heading back to Guatemala this August to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the CAF therapy clinic that I have been blessed to work with over the last 4 years. We are planning our first community run and will do more trainings with our local therapy staff. Also we're working to create a partnership with a national university and the government to provide official diplomas for Promotors of Health in Rehabilitation, so we can expand our area of influence to those remote areas where there is currently nothing.
