Front Page News!

In case you missed HFFI’s latest event and photo lecture, “Grub in the ‘Burg,” you can read all about it in this Free Lance-Star article.

We had a great crowd on Sunday, July 12th, and everyone that attended thoroughly enjoyed Barbra Anderson’s stories of diners, lunch counters, and fine dining in Fredericksburg. The collection of great photos was a feast for the eyes, and we think everyone learned something.

Thank you to the Free Lance-Star for sharing this story of Fredericksburg’s history—and on the front page no less! You won’t want to miss the next HFFI event coming up on September 12th, the Vintage Route 1 Event. This year, we will explore the Upper Princess Anne neighborhood near Carl’s and the General Washington Executive Center.  Come enjoy free family activities as well as a ticketed walking tour of the area.

See you there!

New Faces at the Lewis Store

We are all set up at the Lewis Store with our new volunteer staff and are ready to get to work!

The Lewis Store will be open Wednesdays through Fridays from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. thanks to the generous help from our volunteers. In addition to tending to visitors and answering the telephone, the volunteers will embark (or continue) on their own projects that will help keep HFFI moving forward.

If you are interested in helping us out 1 day a week, or even every other week, please contact us at membership@hffi.org. We still need additional help, particularly because the summertime is full of vacations and people leaving town. We will also need more help in September when some of our volunteers will be returning to work in the school system.

Donation from the Mary Wynn and Charles McDaniel Fund

Recently HFFI received a generous donation from the Mary Wynn and Charles McDaniel Fund through the Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region. We are very thankful to the McDaniel family for again granting us these funds and will be sure to put them to good use.

The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region is a public foundation built by individuals, families, and businesses that care about their community.

Have you heard?

Certainly the arrival of the HFFI monthly e-newsletter is an exciting moment for all of you, but do you know about some of the other great history and preservation organizations that have email newsletters as well?  Some local, others on a national scale, send out very informative and interesting updates.

For example did you know that the James Monroe Museum has a new shoe exhibit!? We didn’t either until we read it in their newsletter! Interested in preservation-related happenings in the Washington, DC, area? Then check out the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s “Capital Region Connection” newsletter.

Overwhelming Support

In April of this year, HFFI reached out to you, our community, asking for donations to help us through this financially difficult time. In response to our letter, the Community Give, and the continuing generosity of the community, we have received wonderful support—some financial, some as volunteer hours, others in kind words.

We appreciate all of it, and we will continue on with our mission to preserve Fredericksburg’s historic landscape. And with a family like you supporting us—we know we can do it.
