Hello <<First Name>>! Hope your summer was filled with travels..

In this issue you'll find
"..it's best not to see a vacation simply as a discrete period of time, but rather as something that you will talk and think about a lot both beforehand, and, hopefully, for years after the fact."
Jesse Signal, "Science of Us", CNN article.

Congratulations to All Fifty Club President Alicia Rovey for finally visiting all fifty states. She started the club as she was nearing the finish line. Life delayed her visits to her final states but she lived vicariously through each member as they achieved all 50. Now she can continue to welcome all our new members as a full 50 stater herself!  Read more about Alicia's journey...
All Fifty Club Events
We held our first two face-to-face events this summer. The first was aboard a Royal Caribbean Alaskan Cruise (that's Louis Ingram-Westover getting his All Fifty States certificate on board - congratulations!). We had fun talking with those that already completed all 50 and some who were just getting started! Our second event was at Hopworks Urban Brewery in Portland, Oregon. We enjoyed sharing a travel tale while we drank excellent ale. We plan to hold more events around the country - the next one will be in Tennessee. Stay tuned!

Travel Goal Getters!

Welcome new record holder Chris Strub who volunteered with youth organizations in all 50 states in 100 days. He served with Riding for Hope, Girls on the Run, YMCA, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and so many more making a difference in young people's lives. Congratulations to Norma and Danka Pieniasek for completing their 50 state journey. Here they are celebrating a glacier landing in Denail Nature Preserve. Check out their travels.
Congratulations Christopher Taylor and Carol Hughes of Hants, United Kingdom for visiting all 50 as International Members! Their final states were North Dakota and Idaho this August 2015. Some memorable experiences were getting married in Las Vegas, flying over the Grand Canyon, a helicopter flight in New York, and watching a drive-in movie!

Allan Paulose completed all fifty in August with a visit to Connecticut. He is an All Fifty Club record holder for visiting food banks and charities in every state to promote awareness about hunger and homelessness. Check out his Facebook page that logs the places he went and the people he met.
Mark O'Rourke completed all fifty in a remarkable way in 2009. He went to his 50th state Hawaii for his 50th birthday. Hawaii became a U.S. in 1959 so he visited Hawaii on its 50th anniversary of statehood.
Congratulations to Judy Carls who completed in North Dakota this summer. If you finish in North Dakota in Fargo, be sure to visit the Fargo-Moorhead Vistor's Convention and Visitor's Bureau to be part of the Best for Last Club.

New Orleans, Louisiana
Definitely a city with character! Whether you visit the city during Mardi Gras or not, the city oozes with character. Wrought iron balconies, cafes with beignets, street musicians, creepy cemetaries. A tour at Mardi Gras World allows you to see float building in process and teaches you about the culture of New Orleans. There is still evidence of Hurricane Katrina which makes you appreciate how the city refused to sit idle and revitalized. More Travel Goal Getter USA Favorites

Baleal, Portugal
New member Brian Rasmussen named Baleal, Portugal a favorite place. Baleal is a tiny island off the coast of Portugal north of Peniche. It is separated from the mainland by a tombolo. A tombolo is a stretch of land that is formed by waves which creates a natural sand bar between the land and the island so they are connected. The unique way the island and the coast are shaped creates great conditions for water sports like surfing. Surf Schools abound.
