Hi All-

One of the many reasons I look forward to summer is the opportunity to read some good books.  You know, the kind you can devour in a day or two?  Looking through some of my past reads, I found the following excerpt from the book, When God Whispers Your Name, by Christian author Max Lucado.  He calls these 'maxims' for Christian Living - keep the ones you like, forgive the ones you don't, and just like Scripture - may you remember these words when it counts.

  • Pray all the time.  If necessary, use words.
  • Sacrilege is to feel guilt for sins forgiven.
  • God forgets the past.  Imitate him.
  • Greed I've often regretted.  Generosity -- never.
  • Never miss a chance to read a child a story.
  • Pursue forgiveness -- not innocence.
  • Be doubly kind to the people who bring your food or park your car.
  • In buying a gift for your wife, practicality can be more expensive than extravagance.
  • Don't ask God to do what you want.  Ask God to do what is right.
  • Nails didn't hold God to a cross.  Love did.
  • You'll give up on yourself before God will.
  • Know answered prayer when you see it, and don't give up when you don't.
  • Flattery is fancy dishonesty.
  • The right heart with the wrong creed is better than the right creed with the wrong heart.
  • We treat others as we perceive God is treating us.
  • Sometimes the most godly thing we can do is take a day off.
  • Faith in the future begets power in the present.
  • No one is useless to God.  No one.
  • Conflict is inevitable, but combat is optional.
  • God doesn't keep a clock.
  • Never underestimate a gesture of affection.
  • When Jesus went home, he left the front door open.

And to sum it up:

  • As soon as you can, pay your debts.
  • As long as you can, give the benefit of the doubt.
  • As much as you can, give thanks.  He's already given us more than we deserve.

Amen.

Best,

WE'VE MOVED UP TO
"PLUNGING INTO INTERVIEWING"!

The PNC has narrowed down their list and is now starting to speak directly with candidates.  Please pray for them and for the candidates as they move into this stage of the process.

PRAYER WITH THE PNC
All are Welcome!

The PNC wants to be guided by prayer in the selection process of our next Senior Pastor. We are all invited to be a part this process by joining members of the PNC to pray for God’s wisdom and discernment and to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Join us in prayer in the sanctuary immediately following the Hymn Sing, prior to the 10 a.m. worship.

Updates from the PNC can always be found on our web site.
Stephen Ministry: Christ Helping People Through People

God has given us the greatest gift of all — eternal life and unconditional love in Jesus Christ. How can you say thanks? One way is to share the love you have received with others who may feel unloved and alone in their troubles. Stephen Ministers say thanks to God by caring for others. Contact Stephen Ministry to learn more about this important ministry of our congregation and how you can get involved. A training class is starting this fall.

 MUSIC MINISTRY OPPORTUNITY

JOIN OUR SUMMER PICK-UP CHOIR!

Want to help enhance our church's worship services this summer?

We need singers of all ages and voice parts each week over the summer for our Sunday morning "pick-up" choir!

We rehearse in Dale Hall from 8:45 - 9:30am, preparing one song to sing at that morning's service.  No need to commit for the summer - just show up on any Sunday if you are free!  No experience necessary since the songs will be simple enough to learn (even by ear) in one short rehearsal.

Email Larisa with any questions or just show up on Sundays through Labor Day.

Please note that there will be NO PICK-UP CHOIR on August 2 or 16.

MPC MINISTRY NEWS

This week's prayer:

Jesus never mentioned unanswered prayer.  He had the boundless certainty that prayer is always answered.  Have we by the Spirit the unspeakable certainty that Jesus had about prayer, or do we think of the times when God does not seem to have answered prayer?  "Every one that asketh receiveth."  We say ---- "But . . . , but . . . ,"  God answers prayer in the best way, not sometimes, but every time, although the immediate manifestation of the answer in the domain in which we want it may not always follow.  Do we expect God to answer prayer?  The danger with us is that we want to water down the things that Jesus says and make them mean something in accordance with common sense; if it were only common sense, it was not worthwhile for Jesus to say it.  The things Jesus says about prayer are supernatural revelations.

My Utmost for His Hightest (May 24 entry), Oswald Chambers
