CURA Travel Grants Announced

Are you planning to present your research at an upcoming conference? Do you conduct research related to the wide variety of issues that touch urban and regional systems? If so, consider applying for a CURA travel grant this fall.

Designed to support graduate student research related to urban and regional studies, the travel grant can be awarded to any graduate student at Ohio State. Because of the high demand for conference travel funds, CURA has increased the grant to $1000.

The deadline to apply is Friday, September 18 at 5:00pm. We are able to award funds to five graduate students, though many more will apply. The process is competitive, and successful applicants will have original research ideas that contribute to the broad field of urban and regional analysis. Please contact Matthew Adair (adair.64@osu.edu) with any questions.

Applicants will receive notifications by Friday, October 2.

Open Streets Columbus
Sunday, Sept. 13 on 4th Street Downtown

On Sunday, September 13, people will get to experience the urban environment in a unique way: without cars.

The Open Streets initiative temporarily closes streets to automobiles so that people may use them for healthy and fun physical activities like walking, jogging, biking and dancing.

Today, there are more than 100 Open Streets initiatives in the United States and Canada. People traffic replaces car traffic, and the streets become ‘paved parks’ where people of all ages, abilities, and social, economic, or ethnic backgrounds can come out and improve their mental, physical, and emotional health.

The effort seeks to encourage sustained physical activity, increase community engagement, and build support for the provision of broader transportation choices.

We'll be there! Will you?
