HOUSE MEETING
1. People are still bumming cigarettes, especially from those who are new to SA Clubhouse. Should there be consequences for people who continue to bum and ask for cigarettes? Submitted by Kyler (ICCD Standard #15)
This is part of a larger problem at the Clubhouse, where people also ask to borrow money, rides, items, and lunches. The discussion concerns how we, as a Clubhouse community, should handle these situations. Maybe we levy consequences on an individual basis, where there is no single disciplinary action, but a consideration of the entire situation.
A smoke-free area was brought to attention again.
Discussion tabled for next week.
2. Should we invest in a content filter to block Facebook, YouTube, and other recreational sites from members' use on Clubhouse computers during work hours? Submitted by Kayla (ICCD Standard #16)
Members and staff sometimes use SA Clubhouse computers for personal use, such as on Facebook and YouTube. There might be a way to limit this use with a browser filter on certain websites.
It might be against Clubhouse Standards to impose content filters on computers, as the Clubhouse is held in common and members are able to use Clubhouse resources as they please. Moreover, taking responsibility away from our members and encoding it into a web filter goes against goals of independence and personal choice.
No content filters will be applied at this time. We can revisit the issue 01/22/2016.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
RE: Free Cellular Phones
Member Chris Baird is signing people up for free cellular phone service. You might qualify if you currently have SSI, SSDI, SNAP, Medicaid, or Medicare. See Chris for more info!
RE: Thefts in the Clubhouse
We're encouraging everyone to use the provided lockers to keep personal belongings safe during the day. A couple incidents of mysteriously missing items suggest a possible theft problem at the SA Clubhouse. Please secure your items. Staff and members are always available to help with the lockers.
RE: Homelessness Experience Survey
The SA Clubhouse Monthly Newsletter Committee is putting together a story this month on the relationship between homelessness and mental illness and would like to feature voices from our own community. A Homelessness Experience Survey is available on the activities table. Surveys should be completed anonymously and can be left in Brandon's drop box in the Business Unit.
