The Master
Before practice, one should remember to concentrate on his or her Master or Guru.
How does the Master transform energy to his disciples?
The Master purifies his disciples, balances and energizes their minds, increases their concentration abilities, and also energizes their Vital Energy through his energy.
Because of this, the disciples’ Manas, or general thinking faculty, attains the higher stages and the ego turns to a pure form of ego. So does the intellect turn to its pure form. One aspect of the activity of the intellect is to communicate or discuss with others, typically while trying to dominate or control the
m. A second aspect is the pure intellect. Pure intellect and pure ego are everywhere in this ether and in the Infinite.
In this pure state of pure ego and pure intellect, all the duality that comes from the frictions of the mind stops (Niruddh), and the Manas or mind turns to Chitta, which is the union of mind, pure intellect and pure ego.
This energy that the Master is continually transferring to his disciples assists them. The master is initiating the energy that cleans all the disciples’ channels and all the blockages of these channels. But before transferring his energy, the Master gives instructions to the disciples on how to clean and energize the body and suggests different types of Pranayam, or breathing exercises.
According to Gheranda Samhita, before Pranayama the disciple should practice 6 types of purification methods. These six acts are: Dhauti (internal cleansing), Vasti (colon cleansing), Neti (cleansing the nasal passages), Launtiki (churning of the abdominal muscles), Tratak (blinkless gazing) and Kapalabhati (cleansing and strengthening of the lungs). One should at least practice Kaphalabhati before Pranayam. The process of Kapalabhati helps to remove toxins, which results in the disciples’ channels being energized.
Our energy channels are contained in all of our bodies; they are part of Panch Mahabut or the five elements that together compose the life energy. Air or Pran, which is linked with life force or vital principle, is constantly moving through this net of channels.
When most people inhale, air pressure moves Pran into their chest or lungs, but not into the navel. By using the right breathing processes, air moves to the navel. Those who use these breathing processes will be free from all diseases, as this will remove toxins from their body and will balance their mind.
When we practice Pranayama we inhale (Poorak), then we hold the air in our belly (Kumbhak), and then we exhale (Rechak). In Pranayama the main purpose is to hold the air in our belly. Holding air in the navel area is the most important part, as it helps to free us from all diseases. Anulom Vilom, or the process of alternate nostril breathing, is one of the main practices of Pranayama and an effective method for purifying the mind and body.

Instructions for Anulom Vilom Pranayama – the process of alternate nostril breathing:
  • Sit in Sukhasan with your back straight.
  • Left hand is in Gyan mudra (thumb and index finger are touching) and the right hand is in Vishnu mudra (index and middle fingers bent), as illustrated in Image 1.
  • Bend your right elbow so that your right palm will reach the space in front of your nose.
  • Block your right nostril with your right thumb and inhale through your left nostril for 4 seconds.
  • Hold the air for 16 seconds, switch the finger position so that 4th and 5th fingers will block your left nostril, and exhale through your right nostril for 8 seconds.
  • Hold the air for 16 seconds, and while the 4th and 5th fingers are still blocking your left nostril, inhale through your right nostril for 4 seconds.
  • Hold the air for 16 seconds, reverse the finger position so that the 4th and 5th fingers release your left nostril and your thumb is again blocking your right nostril. Exhale through your left nostril for 8 seconds and hold for 16 seconds.
  • These instructions describe one whole cycle. It is recommended to start with practice duration of 5 minutes.

With good wishes to you all,
Dr. J. K. Bhadury and Acharya H. K. Bhadury

First International Yoga Day

We were honored to be the guests of the Ambassador of India to Israel at the first International Day of Yoga declared by the UN. The declaration came after the call for the adoption of June 21st as International Day of Yoga by the honorable Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, where he stated "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature."
The Indian Ambassador to Israel, Mr. Jaideep Sarkar, with his wife Minaku, together with Dr. Jayant K. Bhadury and his wife Vatsala, and Acharya Hemant K. Bhadury with his wife Mithilesh.
