DFCM's QI Program Releases Five New, Animated E-learning Videos

The demand for increased skills & knowledge in quality improvement (QI) by DFCM's faculty, staff and residents has been rising steadily over the past several years. To support learning on the subject, DFCM's Quality Improvement Program is launching a brand new series of animated e-learning modules and videos that offers short, concise training on measurement in primary care quality improvement. These modules will help you build your capability to competently use data for improvement.

The five primary care QI measurement modules are:

1. Introduction to Measurement in Primary Care Quality Improvement
2. Building a Measurement Plan for Primary Care Quality Improvement
3. Sampling for Primary Care Quality Improvement
4. Surveying for Primary Care Quality Improvement
5. Using Run Charts in Primary Care Quality Improvement

Accompanying the modules is a second set of videos that demonstrate real-life application experience. Interviews with team members from DFCM academic sites demonstrate the feasibility, relevance and practicality of measuring for improvement in primary care.

FACULTY CHANGES AT DFCM
We are pleased to announce the following new appointments at DFCM. For more information, see the full announcement.

Dr. Risa Freeman is now Vice-Chair of Education – a position she has held in the interim over the past year. 
 
Dr. Azadeh (Azi) Moaveni is now Program Director of Undergraduate Medical Education and Clerkship Director. She will be responsible for leadership and coordination of all DFCM Undergraduate activities.
 
Dr. Ruby Alvi is DFCM’s new Interim Preclerkship Director, who will participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative family medicine undergraduate education opportunities at the preclerkship level.  
 
After a year holding the position as interim, Dr. Abbas Ghavam-Rassoul is now officially the Program Director of MScCH (Health Professions Teacher Education – HPTE Stream), Medical Education Fellowship, and Clinical Teacher Certificate Programs.
 
We would also like to announce that Dr. Gweneth Sampson is DFCM Open’s new faculty lead. Dr. Sampson will be working with DFCM’s Communication’s Strategist, Allison Mullin, on revamping DFCM Open over the coming year.
 
We would like to thank Dr. Kymm Feldman and Dr. Tony D’Urzo for their great work over the past five years as Undergraduate Program Director/Pre-Clerkship Director and Deputy Director of Preclerkship respectively – your hard work and efforts are appreciated.

Dr. Marla Shapiro has been named to The Order of Canada.

Dr. Katherine Rouleau has been appointed to the position of Director, Besrour Centre.

Dr. Dinesh Krishna has received the Anna Jarvis Award for Postgraduate Teaching Excellence in Emergency Medicine from Trillium Health Partners.

Dr. Rafael SumalinogKaty HarringtonDr. Naheed Dosani, and Dr. Stephen Hwang have won best poster for “End-of-life preparations and palliative care for the homeless. A systematic literature review” from the Canadian Society of Palliative Care Physicians.

Drs. Naheed Dosani and Anton Nikouline have won the oral presentation for “Benefits and Barriers of Palliative Care to the Homeless by In-Shelter Programs" at the ALPM conference in Calgary.

Dr. Rick Penciner has won the Ivy Oandasan Leadership Award for Outstanding Contributions in Advancing Interprofessional Education from the University of Toronto Centre for Interprofessional Education.

Dr. Bart Harvey will receive the President's Award from the American Medical Writers Association at their conference this fall in San Antonio.

Dr. Joyce Nyhof-Young was awarded the WB Anderson Award for Extraordinary Contribution to Health Professional Education.

Dr. Harvey Blankenstein from NYGH received an award in recognition of dedicated service to the QI Program.

Medical Teaching in Ambulatory Now in French
Congratulations to faculty members Drs. Warren Rubenstein and Yves Talbot on the French publication of their faculty development text Medical Teaching in Ambulatory, third edition.

DFCM Open is a repository of peer-reviewed, evidence-based, family physician focused tools and resources that are clinical, educational or research oriented in nature. It is aimed at family physicians and primary care professionals but anyone can access these resources.
