THE TATUM FAMILY'S JOURNEY WITH CHERISH KIDS
After three years of marriage and trying unsuccessfully to conceive, my husband and I decided that the Lord must have other plans for our lives. We gave up the idea of becoming parents and began immersing ourselves in other passions. That deep longing for a child never diminished, but was quietly masked. Then, weeks after celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary, a call came. A baby boy was born. He was in critical condition; born two months early, addicted to heroin, various opiates and countless other drugs. It was not known if he would even survive. But, we were given 48 hours to decide if we would be his parents.
I arrived at the hospital within 30 minutes and have never looked back. His months in NICU, his time with St. Jude, his 18 month weaning process – all, simply, reminders of the power of hitting your knees. The strength and resiliency of our miraculous son revealed to us a deeper and more profound level of our Creator's grace, mercy, and unfailing love.
Today, our little fighter is almost 4 years old and he continues to amaze us daily. Every time he looks into my eyes, I know Heaven whispered him into my world. His daddy and I intend to expel every ounce of our being in raising him up to serve and to praise the Heavenly Father who, both, created and saved him.
