1) Fundraiser for Literacy this Saturday

Romeo & Juliet
by William Shakespeare

This is a friendly reminder of our Fundraiser for Literacy – Rome & Juliet at the Watermark on Saturday July 18th. This revised play is said to be amazing!  So buy some tickets and enjoy an evening of live
entertainment with friends and support a great cause.  Please call 902-368-3620 to get your tickets. Or visit www.peiliteracy.ca to buy your tickets online.  $35 – regular price, $25 – student price (with student ID).  There will be music and snacks (donated by Cow’s) before the show.  Doors open at 6:30. Show starts at 7:30.

Here is the play description from the Watermark Theatre’s webpage:
The immortal story of star crossed lovers presented in a startling and moving new production. In a German Prisoner of war camp in 1915, French Canadian and English Canadian soldiers imprisoned together for more than a year tear into a brawl. After being violently separated by their guards, they lie exhausted and wounded.  The fragile men of these “two houses, both alike in dignity "alike dignity” conjure what they need most: the company of women. They dream up both the angel Juliet and her nurse. In this harrowing setting and with these phantoms brought to life, they act out the inevitable tragedy that comes from irrational hatred of ‘the other’

7:30 pm, Saturday, July 18

57 Church Hill Ave, North Rustico

Doors open at 6:30 pm.

12) Abuse & Neglect of Older Adults Research Team in the Maritimes (ANOART) Environmental Scan Survey

Abuse and neglect of older adults is a health and social problem with profound consequences that affects people from all walks of life. Research shows however that more older women are abused than older men. This may reflect the greater proportion of women among the older adult population or other factors such as ageism, sexism, lower social economic status, poorer health of older adults, and fewer personal resources.

The Maritime Provinces represent some of the highest percentage of senior population in Canada and share many other socio-economic challenges that exacerbate the growing concern about the real potential risk for increased abuse and neglect of older adults. ANOART was formed as a result.

ANOART members share a passion and commitment to the wellbeing of older adults. As part of the process of developing a research plan ANOART is conducting an Environmental Scan Survey to contribute to the knowledge about what is happening in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island on the issue of abuse of older people in general but more specifically in trying to understand the lived reality of abused older women.

Who can take part in the research study? Participants must be a resident of New Brunswick or Prince Edward Island. While anyone is welcome to complete the survey in these two provinces, the survey is targeted primarily at professionals who work with older adults in some capacity, including those who work with or for older adults who are abused.

Complete the ANOART Environmental Survey at: www.fluidsurveys.com/s/abuse.
