Issue Two - 20th July 2015

Welcome to Issue Two of our new electronic newsletter, Talking Trees.

We hope you had time to browse through the first one. We welcome any feedback, so if you have time to post a comment on our website, we’d be glad to hear from you.

Olympics

A photo of the opening ceremony on the final day of a three-day camp at Michael Hall school in Sussex. Each year at the end of June, around 400 pupils age 11 from Steiner Schools across the UK and elsewhere in Europe gather together and train in sports from the original Olympics of Ancient Greece. These activities include the marathon, discus, javelin, wrestling, dash, relay and the mini-marathon.

Outdoor classroom

In the recent hot weather, one class migrated into the shade of the lime trees in the playground so that it could carry on with lessons as the south facing classroom they occupy had become too hot to work in.

The next 7 issues will be sent out over the summer months and each will feature a short video clip of our upper school pupils (age 16/17).

The video clips are each about 2 minutes long and it’s a chance to see some of our pupils talking about their experiences in the school.

Below is a newly released short video clip from a series we have recently produced of our upper school pupils. In this one pupils explain how, in their view, the Steiner School Certificate (SSC), is different to studying for GCSE’s and A Levels, and what they think about it as a qualification.

We’ll also be including a different article about various aspects of the education we offer for our younger children (age 3-6 years) in the kindergarten.

You can also read and look at the videos and articles on our website, which will be listed as part of a ‘series’ as we progressively release them.

We’d love you to give us some feedback, so if you’ve got a moment, please visit our website and send us a comment.

If you like what you read and see in this newsletter, please feel free to pass this newsletter onto your friends.

Constructing Childhood

'The viewing gallery is this way, mind the column’, 'Make sure you have on your x-ray glasses’, ‘More blocks... We don’t have enough fuel', ‘Sit near the fire, have my blanket.'

The above is a brief extract from a longer article about 'Constructing Childhood' in kindergarten. You can read the full article on our website (link below).
