As a participating GEAR UP school, you will be receiving the GEAR UP Maine Bulletin each month!

Why is this important?

The Bulletin will give GEAR UP schools the opportunity to stay updated on the following:

  • Grant Mandates & Deadlines
  • GEAR UP news and events
  • Resources to support GEAR UP initiatives
  • Information about other GEAR UP Schools
  • Connections to GEAR UP staff

The GEAR UP Maine Bulletin will also be linked to the newly created  GEAR UP Maine Portal, a website just for GEAR UP Maine participating schools.

In each bulletin there is an option to for schools to share with us what YOU need from GEAR UP Maine. Simply click on  "Tell us what you'd like to know more about" to  provide us feedback or make a request.

We are excited to begin the important (and fun!) work of the grant-- collaborating, sharing resources, and most importantly, making post-secondary readiness and success a reality for the students, parents, and families in Maine!

Warmly,
The GEAR UP Maine Staff

Mary received her Ed.D. in educational leadership and change from Fielding Graduate University and her M.Ed in supervision and evaluation of teaching from the University of Maine Orono. She has been an educator (teacher and principal) in several Maine communities including schools in Athens, Bingham, Solon and Readfield. Most recently, Mary has worked as a Senior Professional Development Specialist for Apple with the MLTI project where she worked with several Maine  leadership teams to create district visions and action plans for leading transformative learning with technology in their schools. Her educational and life experiences continue to offer her the opportunities to learn about Maine and the people that live here.

Whats Happening?
EduGuide is, "The Goal-driven Grit Mentoring Program" that six GEAR UP schools will be piloting this year!

Recent studies indicate that developing personal grit – the measurable ability to persistently pursue long-term goals and overcome obstacles – is a better predictor of success in school and career than IQ scores.
EduGuide's program makes helping students grow the habits of grit and related positive behaviors easier with an automated online platform, curriculum, materials and progress analytics.

Keep up-to-date with how EduGuide is working in the participating schools by checking the District Portal, and see if EduGuide is something that would benefit your school!

GEAR UP Maine Graduates had a great time at the UMF Summer Experience that ran June 21st-27th. Click here to read about two of the students' experiences.
CONGRATULATIONS to our GEAR UP Maine Scholars iPad mini contest winner, Tavia Robshaw!! Tavia attended Mt. Blue High School and is attending Thomas College in the fall. GEAR UP Maine wishes you the best of luck and we hope this iPad mini will help make your college experience that much more enjoyable! Tavia was presented the iPad by GEAR UP Regional Facilitator, Sally Beaulieu and Mt. Blue Guidance Counselor, Ben Milster.
We have begun a pilot texting project for GEAR UP Maine graduates who are starting their first year of college. This program keep graduates connected with their school counselors from July 1st - September 30th. So far, counselors have received great feedback from graduates that this texting program is a great way to keep them on track for college in the fall.
