August 2015 Newsletter: In This Issue...

Welcome from the Vice Chancellor for Student Development,  Dr. John Delaney

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Family Members:

The presence of our students and the level of energy and vibrancy they bring to campus create the regular rhythm and cadence of the academic calendar cycle. As we prepare to welcome our new and returning students to campus to start the school year, this is always a period of high expectations and frantic preparations amid a checklist of last-minute details to ensure that all goes smoothly during the first days and weeks of the fall semester. Whether your student is returning to UTC or starting his or her first semester with us, we hold very similar goals, thoughts, and aspirations as each of you holds, and we look forward to partnering with you to support your student’s success during the coming year.

I sincerely thank you for your investment and commitment in supporting the Parent & Family Association program and in helping sustain a campus community that provides a positive and healthy environment for students to learn, grow, and succeed. We know that college life can sometimes present challenges and obstacles, but these hurdles can also become platforms to help students learn to navigate systems and structures and acquire new problem-solving skills and gain the confidence that comes with a higher level of independence and greater responsibility. Learning how to “figure things out” is an important building block for every college student. We have great colleagues and helpful resources in place to assist students, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us or to guide your student to connect with us for assistance at any time.

As an educator and administrator, I commit to you our best efforts to support your student’s success in every possible way at UTC. As the parent of a college student, I also promise our full commitment to help keep your student safe and to support him or her in any way we can. I feel privileged to serve UTC along with outstanding colleagues within the Student Development departments and all across our campus to help our students achieve their dreams and goals.

This will be a great year, and I look forward to our journey together! Go MOCS!

Best Wishes,

John M. Delaney
