Great Lakes Celebration

The 2015 Inland Seas Education Association Great Lakes Celebration was a resounding success. We counted nearly 400 participants at the main entrance to the event. The vast majority of those participants were young children and they all had huge smiles on their faces. The kids games and science activities were outstanding. I’m confident all of the volunteer hours that went into pulling this event off were well spent. I believe any time you can inspire a child you have made a wise investment! Please check out these photos showing some of the highlights of the day.

Ken Scott Exhibit

ISEA is fortunate to be collaborating with Ken Scott for a special exhibit of his Ice Caves of Leelanau. Ken Scott's exhibit will be on display in the Education Center through August 15th.
Everyone is welcome to view his art during open hours. If you would like to schedule an evening "house party" in the Center to introduce potential donors and volunteers to Inland Seas, contact Fred Sitkins at 231-271-3077 to reserve a time. We would be thrilled if this wonderful opportunity provided you with a unique environment to host a group of friends and acquaintances.

Microplastics Sail

I hate to mention this fact, but summer is already on the way out. I would like to encourage everyone to check out one of our microplastics sails before the summer ends.
We recently entertained the Traverse City Record-Eagle for one of these sails and they had a great time. Please check out the Record-Eagle article describing the program.
I believe everyone will be surprised by this new program. The program follows the ISEA tradition of being engaging, informative, and entertaining. Please review these dates and consider sailing for one of our newest programs. Click here to purchase tickets.

Regional Impact of Inland Seas

The month of August will be very busy for Inland Seas. We are traveling to several ports and would love to see you there. We begin the month in Elk Rapids as we help them celebrate during the 60th Annual Harbor Days Festival.

We will travel to Northport for the sold out Meteor Shower Sail and then will take a group of Young Men in Science participants to Frankfort. While in Frankfort, there will be a Great Lake Discovery Sail, an Astronomy Sail, and we still have tickets available on the Community Funded Sail for only $5.00 per person.

ISEA will spend some time in Traverse City during the second half of the month, where we will feature a specialty sail with the Watershed Center. We will then finish the summer off in Charlevoix and Boyne City on August 31-September 1.

Inland Seas is reaching record numbers with our important mission all around the northern Michigan region this summer. Just a reminder, our transit sails are open to all members as a benefit and are a great deal of fun. To become a member of Inland Seas, check out our membership information.  If you are interested in traveling from port to port with us, simply call the office at 231-271-3077.

DOW Challenge Update

We are now two months into the DOW Challenge and have been successful in attracting $16,117 in donations from new donors. While this is a good start, our goal of $75,000 is still a long way away. We need your help if we are going to be successful with this wonderful opportunity. Please consider introducing a friend, family member, or neighbor to Inland Seas. Together we can position ISEA to impact an increasing number of individuals with our critical charge of protecting the Great Lakes through education.

Donated Boats

Inland Seas has some nice donated boats currently for sale. Please consider driving through our parking lot for a good deal on a used boat. If you know of anyone looking to get rid of a boat they don’t use any more, please send them our way. Selling donated boats is an important part of our overall fundraising efforts.
