WHAT'S HAPPENING AT EXCEED...

Casa del Valle Residential Facility Happenings...

Casa had a blast in July! On the 4th, clients enjoyed the San Jacinto parade, lunch on the town, then the browsed the booths at the Estudillo Mansion's 4th of July Festival. Later in the month, a trip to the Perris Raceway for the Night of Destruction (Demolition Derby) proved to be an exciting experience as well. The clients are already talking about going again!

Santa Fe (Hemet) ADC Happenings...

Our ADC clients continue to visit Devonshire care center for community service on a regular basis. And they had a very special reason to visit their community garden plot. They report that the flowers are still blooming, but this month we used some of the vegetables we grew as ingredients during our cooking class to make a wonderful salsa.

The clients enjoyed going to check out a movie at the local theater. This month we also held an Award Ceremony for clients as well as staff.

Santa Fe (Hemet) WAC Happenings...

The Work Activity Center clients continue to work on our special assembly contracts along with our usual assembly, stuffing, labeling, and packaging jobs. We have a number of new jobs in the WAC this month. A local water company is having us assemble 3 different types of Water Conservation Kits for students attending field trips at their facilities.

We are currently working on another flashlight assembly and packaging order as well as assembling cardboard corners/window protectors. As usual, our workshop is a very busy place.

We held our annual award ceremony on Friday, July, 17th. Clients were awarded for perfect attendance and achievement of excellence as well as for being courageous.

Our collection of soda pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House came to a total of 62,520 tabs. This donation was enough to provide housing for a family of 4 for 30 days. We are all very grateful and proud to be able to help provide for those in need.

Perris ADC Happenings...

July has been an exciting month for the Perris ADC.  We started off with our Independence Day Bar-B-Q with hot dogs and the sweet, sweet experience of making Cotton Candy (thanks to the McNicholas family)  The clients got a chance to make their own cotton candy!  Then in the spirit of American Independence, we started our new Theme “American Music”.  This has been so much fun and an excellent learning experience for the clients.  We are doing our research by taking clients on trips to music stores in the area, where they can learn about the music, as well as the instruments.  Of course we are planning on an extravaganza of a finale next month to show off all we have experienced and learned.  Each of the classrooms is being decorated and the clients are planning for their role in the event.

We also took advantage of the Special Olympic running of the torch, since it was happening nearly in our back yard.  A busload of ADC clients went to Ontario to see the event, and got to meet some of the athletes from around the world.  A couple of our clients even got to hold the torch.  It was a very exciting experience, and we find ourselves even more immersed in the Special Olympics World Games in L.A. than we previously had been.  We have new friends to root on as well as our own Miss Amazing California to support.

Perris WAC Happenings...

On July 2nd, the Client Council hosted an Independence Day barbecue and dance for all EXCEED WAC clients. Hamburgers were served with all the fixings. A live DJ provided the music and the clients had quite a celebration.

Meanwhile in the workshop several contracts that kept Perris WAC buzzing in July. The clients were very happy with their work this month, as evidenced by the joyful smiles when paychecks were distributed.

The Client Council met during July. Various topics of interest were discussed, new clients were welcomed, birthdays were acknowledged, and votes were taken for selection of local charities to support this quarter.  The fortunate charities chosen for support this month were Wounded Warriors and the Lake Elsinore Animal Shelter.

Two WAC clients, Krystina Kingston and David Serna, were recently interviewed by ABC7 News. Both clients were filmed here at the Perris WAC, where they got to show off some of some of their work skills.  The interviews were aired in conjunction with ABC's coverage of the Special Olympics. Additionally, Krystina competed in the National Miss Amazing Pageant held at UCLA on July 28. We are very proud of Krystina's talents and efforts.

We wish to thank IRC for their referrals. We look forward to welcoming new clients to the Perris WAC over the next few months.

Supported Employment Happenings...

We had one placement in July. Cherilyn is our new ADC Aide at the Perris EXCEED ADC!

The average Individual Placement wage continues to be $11.87.

Usually the groups of clients at Tech Data have to walk all over the warehouse looking for a pallet jack to effectively do their job. The pallet jack that is normally assigned to them is always "borrowed" by other employees. This can be very frustrating when it's hot, you've already been working hard, you have to walk a lot and you're trying to get your job done. Well the Manager at Tech Data, Randy, took notice of this issue and put an end to our guys' problem. He allowed them to pick out the pallet jack of their choice and purchased them their VERY OWN pink pallet jack and allowed them to write "For EXCEED only." This way if anyone takes it, it will be very clear who it actually belongs to! Thanks Randy for making the clients job just a little easier.

Client Success:
We're very proud of Rene M. on his achievement of being a Platinum Performer at Lowe's. To achieve this you must have at least 120% productivity for 5 years straight, with no drop offs. For this achievement Rene was presented a very prestigious Platinum Performers lettermen jacket.

Client Success:
On July 15th a few of our "Super Star" Supported Employment clients were recognized for their special achievements as employees. Judge was recognized as a Client of Excellence for being such an inspiration and support to his peers, among other things. Garry was recognized for his many (and I mean MANY) years of maintaining perfect attendance. Staff put on a special luncheon and they were recognized amongst their peers, with some good food and special decor. Everyone had an excellent time and got the opportunity to see what their hard work and dedication can earn them.

Situational Assessment Happenings...

A Situational Assessment is designed to evaluate the client’s functional capacity for community based work in relation to supported or competitive employment and to identify barriers to employment. A 40 hour assessment is made of the client’s work habits, vocational interests, attitude, motivation, and supports from home, available transportation, work and social skills, and work tolerance, through actual participation in various community paid work experiences, corresponding to the client’s abilities and desires.

We conducted 235 assessments last fiscal year.

The Personal, Vocational and Social Adjustment Program Happenings...

The Personal, Vocational and Social Adjustment Program is designed to enhance positive, acceptable social and work related behaviors. These services are delivered working 1:1 with the client. Last month we provided these services to 3 clients.

After receiving PVSA services 100% of the clients retained their jobs for 90 days.
