Day 4.

 

Today is the final day of BlackStar Film Festival's 2015 program! We hope you can join us for the remaining impactful films as the festival comes to a close.


The day starts with an inspirational Master Class featuring prolific producer and director Sam Pollard, joined by producer/director/editor Sabrina Schmidt Gordon, at 11:00am at International House.

Other groundbreaking shorts and features will be screened throughout the day. Check out the schedule for more information, and the list of Sunday's films below.

To celebrate a joyous reunion of the BlackStar family, our Closing Awards ceremony will be hosted by Moni Love at 7:00pm at World Cafe Live, and feature special guest presenters and musical performances by an array of talented musicians. Tickets can be purchased here for $20, and the ceremony is free for Passholders.

Divided Time

“Divided Time” examines the lives of nine fathers who share their experiences in parenthood and their pursuit of success in the music industry, while balancing the pursuit of dreams with the burdens of responsibility.

Filmmakers tease through the fragility of parenthood, specifically of fatherhood, in this collection of shorts that present exceptional stories of devotion, forgiveness, lessons, and estrangement.
August Wilson: The Ground on Which I Stand

This film about the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning playwright August Wilson is based on unprecedented access to his theatrical archives, rarely seen interviews with family, and new dramatic readings of his work.

The shorts in this program push the boundaries by using Afrofuturism and magical realism to tell alternative stories. 
Treasure: From Tragedy to Trans Justice, Mapping a Detroit Story

Treasure tells the story of Shelley “Treasure” Hilliard, a 19-year-old transgender woman of color from Detroit whose brutal murder was not tried as a hate crime.
Closing Awards

The BlackStar Closing Awards is the highly anticipated finale for the Festival.
