Children's Ministry Volunteers | August 2 - Volunteer Sunday!

Thank you so much to everyone who has been willing to serve in children's ministry! What a joy to see God provide more than 40 families to serve. However, there are still needs, so please consider where you can serve. We encourage you to pray and then sign up this Sunday, August 2.
Sunday School Teachers/Helpers
(10:30-11:45 from August 23-November 22)
- 16 families for Elementary Sunday School helpers to rotate on an 8-week cycle
- 4 people to teach Preschool Sunday School
Children's Worship Volunteers
(8:45-10:30 from August 23-December 27)
- Sunday volunteers for 3k-5k (sign up)
- Sunday volunteers for 1st-4th Grades

Gospel Manhood | August 18 @ 11:30 a.m.

Men, make plans to join us in the Fellowship Hall on August 18 at 11:30 a.m. to share lunch and hear from Dr. Derek Halvorson, President of Covenant College. Invite your friends, neighbors, co-workers, running club, cross fit group...
($10 suggested donation for lunch.)

Wednesdays@Covenant

Mark your calendars! Covenant's Wednesday night fellowship dinner and programs resume August 19. Dr. Carl Beckwith of Beeson School of Divinity will be teaching for four weeks. And on September 16 we will welcome seminary professor and author Dr. Chuck DeGroat for a session on marriage.

Dr. Chuck DeGroat at Covenant

Chuck DeGroat, author and Associate Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling at Western Theological Seminary, is coming for several days in September. On Tuesday, September 15, Chuck will be speaking at our Gospel Manhood lunch at 11:30 a.m., and on Wednesday, September 16, he will be leading a Marriage session following our fellowship dinner. Many of you have studied Chuck's book "Leaving Egypt: Finding God in the Wilderness Places." You do not want to miss hearing Chuck share in September!

Summer Salad Suppers

Ladies, our FINAL salad supper is Tuesday, August 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Pat Day (165 Peachtree Road, 35213) with Maggie Mandt sharing. Don't miss this last event of the summer!

 

Camp Covenant

Camp Covenant is just around the corner! We'll head up to Alpine Camp Friday-Sunday, October 16-18. Make plans now to join us for this fun filled weekend of fellowship for the entire Covenant family.

Church Work Day | Save the Date

Save the date for another Church Work Day Saturday, August 29, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. On our last work day we had about 15 volunteers help with some projects around the church grounds. MANY THANKS to those hardworking individuals. On August 29 we will continue to work on our existing project list. Contact Jeff Hayes (JHayes@hic.us) if you plan to attend or if you know of anything that needs to be added to the work list.

Kitchen | Meals & Volunteers

Tuesday Pick-Up Meals are back! The menu for August 4 is chicken fajitas with black beans, yellow rice, roasted onions and peppers, tortillas, and salsa ($25, feeds 4-6). Order by 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 3, and pick up your meal any time between 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 4.
Volunteer in the kitchen! Traci Parker is looking for some volunteers to help prep, chop, and cook with her. Sign up today and lend a hand.

 

Women’s Tailgate Challenge

On Sunday, August 30 at 6:00 p.m the Women's Committee is hosting a Tailgate Challenge in the Day School parking area. This friendly competition will be a time for fellowship, food, and learning about the Women's fall Bible studies. We currently have tailgate organizers for University of Alabama, Mississippi State, Auburn, Ole Miss, Samford, University of Florida, and Florida State. Awards include Most Creative Tent, Best Food, and Women's Choice Award. If you would like to help with a team already listed or create a tent for a school not listed, please contact Terri Yates at wyates704@charter.net.

Family Promise Live Auction

Family Promise of Birmingham's annual live auction will be held on July 30 at Rosewood Hall in Homewood. Tickets are $40 in advance,
$50 at the event, and include food and beverages. Funds raised are used to support homeless families in our city. Please contact Anna Hartzog for tickets or more information at aghartzog@gmail.com or 205-789-7074.

Benefit Concert and Auction

You're invited to a free concert on August 6, 7:00 p.m. at The Avon Theater featuring Corey Nolen, The Hymn Collective (with our own Rick Barnes), and musicians from churches throughout Birmingham. The concert and auction (www.32auctions.com/dougherty) are sponsored by Red Mountain Pres, Cross Creek Pres, Altadena Valley Pres, Covenant Pres, and Cornerstone Church and will help send MTW missionaries Laura and Derek Dougherty to Peru. Childcare will be provided for children ages 5 and under.
