Homelessness Prevention Week


Monday 3rd August - Sunday 9th August 2015

Homelessness Prevention Week (HPW) will be taking place across Australia starting on the 3rd August 2015. Shelter Tasmania, the peak body for housing and homelessness in the State, is pleased to promote the events and activities around Tasmania as part of HPW 2015.

This year’s theme is ‘Step Up to End Homelessness’.

On any given night in Tasmania over 1,500 people are experiencing homelessness.

HOBART EVENTS
 
Step Up with us to end Homelessness
Housing Connect collaborating partners, along with Second Bite and Loui’s Van will be walking to raise awareness for homelessness. Walkers will meet at Colony 47 and walk to Mathers Lane where they will be greeted with tea and coffee provided by Loui's Van.
When: 12pm, Monday 3rd August
Where: Meet at Colony 47, 432 Elizabeth Street, North Hobart

Free Sausage Sizzle
Anglicare Tasmania invites you to join them for a free sausage sizzle
When: 11am - 1pm, Friday 7th August
Where: Glenorchy Council Lawns

 Come along and grab a feed, all are welcome!
 

We need to talk: A community conversation with Rosie Batty
Join Rosie Batty as part of a panel discussion about how Tasmanians can recognise family violence and support our friends, families and communities to stand up against it. The panel, hosted by ABC journalist Airlie Ward, will explore why this is an important conversation for the whole community.
When: 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Tuesday 4th August

Anglicare invites you to hear Rosie Batty
Rosie is a leader in the crusade against family violence. Hear her story of resilience, courage and inspiration. Be part of a growing movement to end family violence in our communities.

Magnolia Place LWS
Magnolia Place LWS will be at the community stall in Meadow Mews giving away balloons, apples, plants and most importantly information to raise awareness of homelessness.
When: All day, Thursday 6th August

DEVONPORT EVENTS 
 
HELP Film Festival
Finalists in the H.E.L.P. “Homelessness; Every Life is Precious” film festival will have their short films shown at the CMax Cinema. The night will be hosted by Ben Milbourne (former Masterchef contestant) with the theme "Who is Homeless". Prizes will be awarded on the night.  
When: 6:00pm, Monday 3rd August

STATEWIDE EVENTS
 
Beanie Day
City Mission challenge you to register your workplace, school or group to wear your favourite or craziest beanie and make a donation to help the homeless.
When: Friday 7th August (or any day during Homelessness Prevention Week)
