Living a Dream
Since I knew there was such a thing as a missionary teacher, I have wanted to be one. Now, about 12 years later, God is allowing me to be living that dream. Even though I have a Filipino driver’s license and a Filipino bank account, it still doesn’t seem real to me that I have moved to Manila! It seems like I’m just here for another short stay, even though I have moved my whole life here. I’m not sure when it will hit me that I am staying, but I’m sure it will. I have greatly enjoyed being back in the Philippines!
All of the new staff for 2015-16!
We have had three days of new staff orientation and three days of an all-staff retreat. We have also started teacher in-service days. It’s hard to believe, but school starts on Wednesday! I was supposed to be teaching two classes of 6 th grade math and science and one class of 6 th grade Asian social studies. However, we are still lacking a 6 th grade English teacher, so I was asked to be the primary 6 th grade teacher. What that means is that we will combine the 6 th grade into one giant class (of around 32 kids), and I will teach their English, Reading, Math, and Science. This is definitely going to be pushing me out of my comfort zone and testing my classroom management skills, but I am thankful that I will have extra prep hours to get ready for this. I am looking forward to the challenge, though I know I cannot be successful without the Lord’s help!
I still can’t believe I’m living my dream. One day reality will set in, but for now I will enjoy where I am at! I have written more about my first impressions of the Philippines on my blog, so if you would be interested in knowing more, click here!
Adopt a Student!
This year I will be teaching approximately 30 6th grade students. These students are in a transition year, as it is their first year of middle school. I am seeking around 30 of you to “adopt” my students! If you are interested in being more intimately involved in this ministry by praying daily for one of my students, please respond to this e-mail. I’m still working on finding out how much information I can share with you, but I would like to know who is interested. If you are a part of a church or small group that would like to adopt a student, that is fine, too! You can be a huge part of God’s work in their lives this year!
Thank You!
Thank you again for what you have done to help me get here. I am so blessed and excited to be here. Thank you for continuing to be used by God to keep me here and to encourage me while I serve. May He bless you richly!
