GEELONG REGION CROSS COUNTRY

SEASON 2015
BRIMBANK WRAP
Hi Team Geelong,

Happy Sunday. I hope you all recovered well from yesterday and got a nice long run in this morning.

It was a pretty good outing for the Geelong team at Brimbank Park yesterday. The tough loops around the Park seem to suit the more strength based runners and the Geelong is always strong!

The Open men were a bit lighter on at the very pointy end with the rockstar Nick Wightman off on a photo shoot on Hamilton Island. We were looking for some big efforts from the meat of the team and they didn't disappoint. The race for the valuable 6th runner was close for the entire 16km with Jarrod McMullen holding strong to lead a very close cluster of Brad Fuller, Darren Riviere and Mick Lowe. Big efforts for the good of the team, thanks men.

We were one runner short of registering an Open Wmns team but that didn't stop the girls from running some very solid races. Sarah Waters lead home Cara Peake with Sarah Walker having a brilliant race! Cathryn Hoare also showed her strength on the tough course.

Claudia Verstraten recorded a memorable win in the U20 Wmns 4km race. In what will be her last run in a Geelong singlet for quite some time, she showed her pace over the shorter distance to snap up first place! We wish Claud all the best as she embarks on a track and field/cross country scholarship at University of Arkansas!

Geelong had a very strong contingent in the U16 Wmns race finishing 4 runners inside the top 7!! Even better was this included a big win for Heidi Demeo and a 3rd place for Georgia Quick. Olivia Hobbs took 6th and Rebecca Waters 7th. Imagine how strong the Wmns Premier division will be in 5 years!!!

PHOTOS (Paul should have had a Geelong bib on yesterday he covered that much of Brimbank!)
