We are all in this together. Your own ability to reach enlightenment is contingent on the enlightenment of others. This does not mean that you need to go around proselytizing at people; on the contrary, you should lead by example. When you are able to walk through a fear it shows others that they, too, can walk through their own fears. When you act unselfishly, it shows other people that they can relinquish the illusion of lack. When you can be in faith and joy, regardless of your circumstances, you allow others to do the same.
Any impulse you have to become holier than your fellows is a product of the negative ego, and should be released. There is enough enlightenment for everyone, and enlightenment is made that much more by the number of people who reach for it. The impulse to seek out your own glory above that of your fellows comes from a fear of lack – there is not enough, I am not enough, I will never be enough, and so on. There is enough. You are enough. You will always be enough. For you are a child of God, a spark of the Divine, a co-creator of the Universe. How could you possibly not be enough?
Whenever you catch yourself thinking about lack, correct yourself. Whenever you feel entrenched in worry or fear, focus on bringing your energy up from the solar plexus and into the heart center, in your chest. Focus on your joy. Write gratitude lists to help you be fully aware of what you do have. Do generous things, so that you can experience the abundance available to you. The more you exercise this muscle, the stronger it will become.
