The natural occurrence of Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) forest is restricted to the Northern parts of Jordan only. Therefore, pine forest observed in other parts of the country is man-made by the Ministry of Agriculture.
This fact includes two indications;
• Aleppo Pine trees have speedy growth in comparison with other woody trees in Jordan like Oak tree. And thus; presence of Aleppo pine forest on red (Terra-Rossa) soil is unnatural.
• Weakness of vegetation cover under Aleppo Pine trees is attributed to the fact that the needles of pine trees are acidic and when they fall onto the red acidic soil, the soil conditions will be worse and will not allow certain species as Orchid species to appear.

Birds Study in Mujib Biosphere Reserve (8,000 JD)
The Mujib Biosphere Reserve is one of the most important areas in Jordan for bird populations due to its location on one of the world’s major annual bird migration routes. Site observers have recorded sightings of numerous rare bird species, some of which use the Mujib area for hatching and breeding. As is the case with all other components of the local ecosystem, we must follow and observe these species in order to get a clear picture of their distribution, the threats they face and environmentally appropriate ways to preserve their existence.
The research department at RSCN seeks to update the primary 2001 study on Mujib’s bird population by bringing in international volunteers and training a team of field researchers on bird-studying and bird-categorizing techniques. A collection of field reports based on their research will be compiled and archived for later reference.
