AustCham Beijing Newsletter
31 July 2015

July has been another active month for Chamber events, while also being a period of preparation as we prepare to ramp-up our activities and launch new initiatives including a Sustainable Cities Working Group and a Chamber representation in Tianjin in the second half of the year. Here is a quick look back at the month of July.

On July 2nd,  AustCham Beijing welcomed the Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon. Ian McFarlane MP to Beiing by hosting a breakfast with members at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. Minister McFarlane used his presentation to reiterate that Australia is indeed a friendly investment destination for Chinese investors and both countries strongly compliment each others commercial growth.

Presentations by LehmanBrown and Norton Rose Fulbright at the Australian Property Overview Seminar on the 14th provided an informative overview and update on the regulatory environment surrounding outboard investment to Australia.

On a lighter note, the Young Professionals Summer Soiree was held in conjunction with AustCham partners CPA, ACYPI and ACYA at the spectacular Pine Garden at China World Summit Wing. This event was a great opportunity to relax, catch-up with old friends and mingle with new faces after a busy week of work.

July has also been a shaky month in the stock market. Concerns have been raised that suggest the stock market is reflective of longer term structural issues, which may impact the trade between Australia and China. However, many of these concerns have been largely overstated as pointed out by AustCham Beijing’s General Manager Nick Coyle during his appearance on ABC Newcastle local radio this morning.

Lastly, the AustCham team would like to wish everyone a Merry Australian Christmas in July! We hope to see you tonight for Christmas Aussie Drinks at Aria Bar, China World Hotel.
