Observation & Details

I take a long moment to study all the reality of what I see. I observe my subjects in terms of dark and light, I look at the negative and positive shapes and I notice the direction of all the tiny facets and angles. Working directly from life keeps the feel of the piece unique and original.

80cm high ceramic sculpture: Some honest interpretation of reality comes through this piece because I kept looking in my mirror to observe the inside contours of my lips rather than just relying on my memory of what lips look like.

Naked Literacy

A3 watercolour: Her expression is of letting go and freedom. She is relaxed in the comfort of acceptance of who she is during this experience of being a life model, of being painted naked, of allowing me to express myself through her being the subject of this painting.

Conclusion

My art seems to come alive once I start adding the details, one by one those details build together to create the magic of the whole piece. Developing my art takes patience and concentration. I keep my observations first hand and thus the results are much closer to nature, which I find makes the art somehow seem more compelling.
