The success of a Downtown Revitalization project relies on the passion and spirit of the community that is driving the project. Under the leadership of the Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee and working with the City’s Economic Development Department, the project will take a bottom-up approach to completing the Four Stages of Downtown Revitalization as identified by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
Engaging the community in the development of community-specific Downtown Revitalization Strategic Plans, and securing the community’s commitment to the Revitalization of our Downtown is essential.  When the community feels that they own the project that sense of ownership becomes empowering helping to ensure the project is fully implemented.  Volunteers and their efforts are greatly appreciated and we encourage residents to become involved, not only to add their voice to the development of the Downtown Revitalization Strategy but to assist with future project activities.

RFP Award Combined with Workshop Schedule

The City of Kawartha Lakes recently awarded Stempski Kelly and Associates the contract to develop recommendations for the Streetscape and Façade Design Guidelines in conjunction with the Downtown Revitalization project.  The Project will include four phases that will facilitate the development of the recommendations through strong community consultation in each of the identified downtown areas.
Founding principal, Sean Kelly will be working as the lead in preparing the Streetscape and Façade Design Guidelines for the Lindsay, Fenelon Falls and, Coboconk/Norland communities. Working with the three Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committees they will use a “made-in-the-community” phased approach which includes background research, community design workshops and design alternatives and guidelines.  The last phase will involve “sharing” these recommendations through public presentations. The Streetscape and Façade Guidelines for these communities is scheduled to be completed within a four-month period

Preliminary meetings have been held with stakeholders in the identified communities and the public “Community Design Workshops” are scheduled to take place in July and August.  Please consider saving the date to attend your community workshop

Omemee’s Downtown Revitalization

A public information night for the Omemee Downtown Revitalization project was hosted by Councillors Jilesen and Martin on July 9th. The presentations made by Judy Coward, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and Darlene Algire, City of Kawartha Lakes Economic Development, highlighted the steps of the project, specific to Omemee. The Mayor, Andy Letham made a genuine address about the importance of this project to Omemee and implored residents to support the project and its need to gain more community involvement.  This support and enthusiasm by residents and business owners is critical in the continuing success of the project in Omemee.  Staff from Economic Development and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs also responded to many questions about the project.  The evening was successful in gaining resident volunteers who can help with future stages of the project. Volunteers and their efforts are greatly appreciated and we encourage more residents to step forward, not only to add their voice to the hopes for this project’s outcomes, but to assist with future project activities.  If you are interested in learning more about the Omemee Downtown Revitalization please contact Darlene Algire, Downtown Revitalization Coordinator 705-324-9411 extension 1394 dalgire@city.kawarthalakes.on.ca
