Community Potluck Dinner - what you've missed
by Brian Hepburn

Last Saturday evening was a great night but just a pity we clashed with the Fire Brigade and the Yacht Club.

Close to 50 turned up and have a very enjoyable evening. The menu was top class with a huge variety of yummy food.

Greg from the Opua store supplied two big bundles of buns.
Di Saddler got 11 out of 10 for the huge bowl of trifle.
Myra made some lovely Feijoa crumble with custard.
I love puddings!

Myra also provided us with a brain teaser based on the names of fish.
Great competition with lots of laughs. Thank you, Myra.
She tells me she has a harder one lined up for next BYO dinner.

John Goldsbury did the sneaky thing he had all the lights turned off and then he came out of the kitchen with a very long birthday cake.
It was in fact, three cakes joined together with icing and each cake had 29 candles on it!

What a fantastic 87th. birthday and thank you all for a great night. I nearly forgot to say the cake was BLUE! Blue is my favourite colour.

The band arrived very late as most had already gone home but for those left the dancing was lots of fun.

All voted we should hold these Love Opua BYO Dinners about at least twice a year.
Next time we hope to get a date that is clear so everyone can come.

Puketiitii Ti - H E L P!
By Brian Hepburn

We continue to work on clearing the hill, Puketiitii Ti.

The view from the top of the hill is breathtaking.

It is going to make a great barbeque area for the people of Opua to use plus entertain your visitors.

What we need now are more workers to assist in this.

We now have two new brush cutters so the job is far easier.

We need people to drag the cut bush up to the chipper.

If you can give us only three hours per week it would make the job so much quicker.
Many hands make light work.

Please join us on Thursday or Saturday 9 am to 12 noon.

Look forward to seeing you at the working bees.

Community Garden - who is interested?
by Brian Hepburn

NOW HERE IS A QUESTION FOR YOU. PLEASE ANSWER.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A COMMUNITY GARDEN?

It is of no use our creating a community garden if no one is interested.
They are working extremely well in many towns throughout New Zealand.

We look forward to your answers.

community garden is a single piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people.

Bus Stop Northbound – SH11
by Manuela Gmuer-Hornell

Communities (residents, schools, police etc)  can work together and the council does listen!

After a few letters of concern from schools and LoveOpua to Clarks Coachline, the FNDC and our Mayor John Carter, work has (out of the blue) started… Hans Garton and his team from Earthworx, have begun to widen the road verge just south of Oromahoe Road. Hans thinks the project should be finished within the next two weeks. Big boulders and plenty of wood piles will make this dangerous corner much safer for our school kids to wait for the Kerikeri Bus and for passengers to disembark from the public busses. There will even be room for a bus shelter.

Thank you FNDC for listening to us!! Now the ball is in our corner to erect a bus shelter. Please contact us if you can help.
