Hello Castro Cares Donors!

What We've Been Up To
Data: Month by month data for 10B (overtime SFPD), and the homeless outreach services are available on the Castro Cares website: http://www.castrocares.org/outreach-data/

The data for the SF Patrol Special Police will begin to be posted within the next week.

The homeless outreach services have been regularly going to the hot spots in the neighborhood particularly around:

-  Church St., 14th St. and Market St.
-  Castro St. 17th - 18th St.
-  Pink Triangle Park, Jane Warner Plaza
-  16th St, Noe, Market
-  Market and Octavia

The outreach services are having an impact with 70.2% of people willingly engaging with outreach staff in the month of May. People have been helped with getting a shelter bed, enrolling in case management, referred to project homeless connect or every day connect, assistance with getting ID.

Initial outreach may be rebuffed but as clients become familiar with regular outreach workers more services & referrals become accepted.

10B Services
Castro Cares 10B services is averaging 20 - 28 hours a week in the Castro/Upper Market. Foot patrols are directed randomly to patrol the Castro Cares footprint east of Sanchez and West of Sanchez being mindful to walk the side streets in the footprint.

The Castro Cares 10B officers have responded to a variety of issues in the Castro/Upper Market from questioning people who look suspicious (stopping to talk with a woman who appeared to be overly interested in the contents of parked vehicles), moving people out of doorways, to arranging for transport for individuals needing homeless services and/or emergency medical services.

Community members frequently comment and provide feedback on the increased police presence - they are grateful to see an officer "walking the beat".

How To Report To Castro Cares & Request Homeless Outreach

To Request Police Services:
Emergency call 911
Non-Emergency call 415-553-0123
ask for the CAD # to be able to track the resolution of your call and to ensure your call gets entered into the SFPD data collection system.
Castro Cares is NOT an emergent or urgent service. All calls for police related issues MUST be made to the police department.

To Request Homeless Outreach Services:
Call 311 and ask for homeless outreach dispatch.
SF HOT has recently informed Castro Cares that their capacity to respond to calls for service has increased. The HOT (homeless outreach team) dispatch can now dispatch HOT workers to respond to calls within 2 hours ( 8 a.m. - 9 p.m). HOT dispatch knows the location of each outreach worker. If they are in the Castro, working for Castro Cares, the dispatch will call that person and he/she will be able to respond quickly. If there is no one working in the Castro, the dispatch will call the next available person and response will be within 2 hours.
