A Trek With the Shepherd

A few weeks ago, 23 students and seven leaders from the Junior High Ministry had the opportunity to go on “Trek” which consists of a weeklong backpacking trip through the Inyo National Forest. The entire team splits up all the equipment such as tents, bear cans, and cook kits. We load it up in backpacks and carry all of it for about 10 miles to and from Garnet Lake, an isolated lake along the John Muir Trail. Students and leaders are challenged not only physically, but also spiritually as they make the long, difficult trek through the wilderness...

Learning to Fight Back with Joy

I’m very familiar with “joy” but I really didn’t know how to explain we “get” joy. The women’s ministry summer study called “Fight Back with Joy” (by Margaret Feinberg) was amazing and transforming. Margaret recently experienced the trial of cancer, so she had a fresh perspective on how to fight back with joy.

During one week, I learned that joy matures through surrender, expands with trust, deepens through walking by faith, abounds in hope and beckons us to live for His glory. Whew! And God put me to the test from the beginning of the study...

Happy 60th, EvFree!

Our church celebrates 60 years this fall! Launched in 1955, our church began with a group of thirteen young couples (most in their 20s) who moved from the Los Angeles Free Church, mortgaged their homes to pay a pastor, and held their first service in a VFW hall. Soon after, they bought property at the intersection of Malvern & Woods in Fullerton as their first site and then eventually built the campus at our current location where we moved in 1980. Over three thousand Sundays later, we’ve seen God’s great faithfulness to us as we have lived life together as EvFree! Standing on such a rich foundation, we believe God has so much more in store for us in the years ahead as our church continues the vision of following Him in a journey of discipleship, connecting with others as part of a spiritual family, in order to go into the world as missionaries of His good news.

We invite you to mark your calendars to celebrate with us on Sunday August 30 in our morning services, which will include a message in the Worship Center from one of our former pastors, Chuck Swindoll. This will be a meaningful time of looking back at God’s blessing to us as a church family and of looking forward to what new vistas He is opening for us. We encourage Sunday communities, life groups and small groups to take advantage of that weekend for gatherings, reunions, and remembrances.

Here’s to the next 60 years!

Baptisms

Our next baptisms will take place in all services on Sunday August 9. The baptism class for adults will be held on Sunday August 2 at 3:30 pm in C212. Sign up on the Plaza on Sunday, online here, or contact the church office, 714.529.5544.
