This week RCC launched a new and greatly improved website. It's now easier to find information about the eResearch technologies, services and facilities that RCC offers.

UQ accepts FlashLite HPC
UQ formally accepted the FlashLite high performance computing equipment in late August 2015.
The Chief Investigators on the FlashLite ARC grant were then invited to suggest early adopters of the new data intensive supercomputer.
By mid-to-late September, RCC expects FlashLite to be available for general use. Read more

Euramoo opens for pre-registration
Researchers are invited to pre-register to use Euramoo, a new cloud-based computer cluster being built by QCIF in collaboration with RCC.
Euramoo is expected to be ready for use sometime this month. More info

New workflow system eases image data management
A RCC and Centre for Advanced Imaging project has created a new workflow that has significantly reduced the human effort required to collate and store microscope image files and curate metadata.
Over the last year, UQ’s Centre for Advanced Imaging worked with RCC’s Dr Carlo Hamalainen to develop a workflow for uploading images from microscopes and other imaging devices to a RDSI data collection, complete with associated metadata. Read more

100 UQ researchers register for Galaxy-qld
The Galaxy-qld server, maintained by RCC within the Genomics Virtual Lab project, recently reached a milestone with the 100th UQ researcher registering on the site.
More than 140 Australian scientists from all states make use of Galaxy-qld on a daily basis. Read more

RCC app goes with the flow
RCC’s visualisation expert is developing an application that makes it much easier for researchers to spot and analyse patterns in flow data.
Flow data can involve anything that moves, such as water, wind, force and energy, etc. Read more

Paul Bell joins RCC
William Paul Bell (pictured) has joined RCC as a Research Analyst to work on a multidisciplinary solar energy project administered by UQ's Global Change Institute.
His work will initially involve translating the Energy Economics and Management Group’s (EEMG) agent based model of the Australian National Electricity Market (ANEM) from the Barrine HPC to GCI’s new cluster. Read more

RCC Bioinformatics Team Leader Dr Lien Le (pictured) was the UQ representative invited to attend a non-model organism bioinformatics training event in London for just 10 Australian experts.
Bioplatforms Australia, in collaboration with CSIRO and The Genome Analysis Centre (TGAC), UK, organised the three-day workshop from 29 July to 1 August 2015. Read more

Join UQ's second Software Carpentry bootcamp
Want to learn to code? Then get in quick to secure the last few places at this year's second UQ Software Carpentry Bootcamp, 28–29 September.
RCC’s Belinda Weaver, the bootcamp’s organiser, said: “After rethinking the July workshop, which some people found too ambitious a program for two days, we have dropped the SQL lesson so we can go deeper into the three remaining topics of Shell, Git and Python.”
Belinda said 10% of attendees from the July UQ bootcamp registered to train as Software Carpentry instructors. The Brisbane-based training will take place in January 2016. Register your interest.

The future is solar powered recycling trash compactors that email you when full, said Dr Peter Beckman of the United States’ Argonne National Laboratory. His 31 July RCC seminar was on: ‘Waggle: A platform for distributed smart wireless sensors and in-situ parallel computation’.
