31st July - 28th August 2015

Hello, as we're hoping you'll be out and about this month we've made this a month-long issue, with our next newsletter reaching you at the end of August.

If you're not going away on holiday, there's plenty to keep you entertained this month, whatever the weather. How about some evocative discussion and storytelling with artist Sunil Shah at New Art Exchange or an exploration of social and political relationships in an age of globalisation at NN in Northampton.  No matter what the weather, join Alison Lloyd for her alternative walking tours of Newstead Abbey. If you've got young people to keep amused, QUAD's the place to be with a whole lot of cool workshops. Exhibitions this month include Vertigo: Keike Gallmeier at NN in Northampton and From the Sea by Anne Alldread at Banks Mill in Derby.

There are lots of interesting opportunities, jobs and commissions, in the region and elsewhere. Keep checking the website to see what others are added throughout the month.

We're delighted to present the work of Tim Shore, our latest participant in 'Meet the Artist'. His feature runs concurrently with a presentation of new work at the National Trust's Workhouse in Southwell. The work has been created as a result of Tim being a beneficiary of a New Opportunities Award, offered to enable collaborations between artists and museums. Read more about  Tim below and at http://www.emvan.net/content/meet-artist-tim-shoreLet us know if you'd like to take part in this feature.

As ever, there's loads of new content on www.emvan.net, including the latest news from the sector, not least of all the news of Nottingham Contemporary director, Alex Farquarson's recent appointment as director of Tate Britain. So, who will step into his shoes?

Please continue to send us your studio snapshots, and don't forget to keep uploading your events and opportunities too.

Have a good Summer!

Meet the Artist: Tim Shore

Tim Shore is the latest artist in our 'Meet the Artist' feature.

Tim studied Graphic Design at Wolverhampton Polytechnic (1984) and has an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art (2002). He works with moving image, drawing, text, and installation. Shore’s practice is concerned with the impact of technology on society and the individual. Recent work has explored the relationship of craft to the digital and examined the corporeal presence of the maker – evidenced in measurement, materiality, movement and form – and its incremental translation and replacement by the tool, machine and computer.

Tim is a beneficiary of a New Opportunities Award, part of New Expressions
a programme  establishing a national approach to collaboration between contemporary artists and museums and over the last year and a half Shore has been making 'Blind Spot', a film installation for The Workhouse in Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
