We serve as a collective voice for sport in our region, striving for quality sport experiences for all and attracting, creating and retaining sport tourism opportunities for Grande Prairie region.

Sport Trainer Course

Increase your theoretical and practical knowledge in injury prevention & treatment. Learn unique and practical taping techniques for most common sports injuries. This course is a combination of the Athletic Injury Management and Sport Taping & Strapping courses rolled into one. Participants who complete the two day course will receive their certificates for Athletic Injury Management and Sport Taping & Strapping

Upcoming Events & Programs 

Tour of Alberta 

The Tour of Alberta is Canada’s first and highest ranked professional road cycling stage race. With an international audience of over 45.5 million viewers last year! Held September 2 – 7, 2015, the Tour of Alberta presented by ATB Financial will see approximately 120 of the world’s best cyclists race across a diverse and beautiful landscape of Alberta’s urban and rural roads throughout the six-day stage race.

 

Stage 1 
This world-class event will begin with Pomeroy Inn & Suites Stage 1’s Team Time Trial (TTT) in the City of Grande Prairie on Wednesday, September 2. Start and finish will be at Eastlink Centre. 

Road Closures: Tour of Alberta road closures for the TTT September 2nd will start at 5pm and end at ~8pm. Access in and out of some areas of Grande Prairie will be limited or not accessible at all.

Stage 2
During SUBWAY ® Stage 2, the peloton will race by the scenic boreal forests of the County of Grande Prairie.

Road Closures: Tour of Alberta road closures for Stage 2 on September 3rd in the County will be between the hrs of 10:30 a.m. & ~5:30 p.m. Traffic will experience delays due to periodic road closures lasting between 10 and 25 minutes

Who should attend?


This event is open to everyone! It's free and if seeing the world’s best cyclists compete isn't reason enough to come to the Tour of Alberta, at each start and finish location event goers are also able to enjoy a festival packed with live entertainment, interactive vendors, local food varieties and fun activities. Both Stage 1 and Stage 2 should not be missed!

Physical Literacy & Sport for life Summit Grande Prairie 

Sport 4 Life is a movement to improve the quality of sport and physical activity in Canada.


Joining us at the CS4L Grande Prairie Summit will be Dr. Dean Kriellaars, Dr. Doug Gleddie & Richard Way.

Dr. Dean Kriellaars is the Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Medical Rehabilitation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Kriellaars has worked extensively in the field of physical literacy for well over a decade.

Dr. Doug Gleddie is the Assistant Professor for Elementary Physical Education at the University of Alberta. Sport, Recreation, Education & Health leaders - mark your calendars. This is a summit you wont want to miss. Building Physical Literacy - one piece at a time.

Dr. Richard Way is an architect of Canadian Sport for Life + the Long Term Athlete Development Framework. As a senior leader for the CS4L Leadership team, he has provided guidance to 56 National Sport Organizations in Canada.

Optional: Sunday September 20th Fundamental Movement Skills Community Leadership Workshop (8:30 am to 4:30pm) Workshop is not included in the $95.00 registration fee.

Training 2x/week for 13 weeks
$410 + GST
Grade 7 & 8, M & W 6:30-7:30pm

Philosophy/Approach
ASDC provides developmentally appropriate performance training based on sport science. Sessions are led by experienced and university educated Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS). Training develops the right physical attributes at the right time with focus on technical proficiency and movement mechanics to take you to the next level of sport.

Training Outcomes
Develop attributes required for athletic success: strength, speed, power, agility, and quickness
Decrease likelihood of injury
Increase ability to train hard over a longer period of time
