Announcements

  • Sabbatical Grant Success! MPC has been awarded a grant from the Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Programs to cover the expenses of Pastor Katie Pate’s sabbatical in summer 2016. Unlike a vacation, a sabbatical is a time of "intentional exploration and reflection," both for the pastor and for the congregation. Details to come throughout the year!
  • How does your garden grow? Sign up in the Narthex to provide flowers for the Sanctuary one Sunday morning.

  • Summer Hymn Sing! Gather in the sanctuary at 9:45 a.m. on Sundays in August to sing your favorites from Glory to God and Hear the Prayers That Rise.
  • Faith and Film: The Wizard of Oz August 20, 7 p.m. Join Pastor Katie Pate and Youth Ministry Director Doug Vitro to watch this classic film and discuss spiritual themes. We’re going outdoors for our first film, The Wizard of Oz. Meet at Brooklyn Park (on Milwaukie Ave) at 7 p.m. for conversation, the movie starts at dusk. Free, bring your own refreshments and a blanket to sit on.
  • Youth Rock Climbing August 25. Both youth groups meet @ Circuit Bouldering Gym in Tigard at 7 p.m. Free, $4 if you want to rent climbing shoes. Chaperones are welcome to climb too!
  • Sing One Sunday August 30, 9 a.m. Join us for a one-morning informal choral gathering! Anyone interested in singing can meet in the sanctuary at 9 a.m. to learn a short 4-part choral offering to sing in that morning's service!
  • Welcome Orange Line Sept. 12. Come join the neighborhood celebration as the Main Street/Milwaukie Light Rail officially opens! Volunteers are needed to serve lemonade and ice cream bars in the church parking lot from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Let Pastor Katie (pastor@milwaukiepres.org, 503.654.7782) know if you are available to help out.
  • Bus Buddies North Clackamas School District is looking for volunteers to ride with new students for the first few weeks of school as they learn bus safety. See http://www.nclack.k12.or.us/Page/24474, or call Kathy Harrison at 503.353.6019.

  • Small Group Wednesdays Are you a fan of the slow food movement? If so, then Slow Church: Cultivating Community in the Patient Way of Jesus may be the book for you. Gather in the dining room at Bob’s Red Mill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays this summer to discuss the ideas in Slow Church
