Those Who Swim (in) The Forest

Those Who Swim (in) The Woods is an exhibition of work by three Irish artists, Michael Holly, Ross Cochrane and Alan James Burns, that was initiated in the context of the Estonian forest. It opened in Y Gallery, Jakobi 1, Tartu, Estonia on Friday 14th August.

The exhibition runs until Sunday 30th August 2015. Gallery opening times are Wednesday - Friday 12noon - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 12noon - 5pm.

Using the Irish relationship with forest as a metaphor, this work identifies the hidden treasures and the hidden dangers in the human psyche, in national identity and in sites where people and landscape interact.

Those Who Swim (in) The Forest is a result of a residency in MoKS August 2014, organised by Cavan County Council Arts Office in Ireland and funded as part of the EU Leonardo Da Vinci Programme.

Café Sessions

Café Sessions takes place every fortnight at Chapter 1 Café, Main Street, Cavan. With an 8pm start on a Thursday evening, the venue quickly packs out with enthusiastic spectators and fans, so it’s always advisable to arrive early.

Relying on the generous donations of the audience, Café Sessions supports emerging artists specialising in music and spoken word with the odd surprise in other art forms. Pun intended and it only adds to the excitement! It has featured a host of once unknown and now celebrated artists such as Stephen James Smith, The Strypes, Lisa O’Neill, The Eskies, Clara Rose, Felix Sonnyboy Wilson, The Sons of Robert Mitchum, The Mighty Stef, Ana Gog, Aaron Van Haaster, Harry Bird & The Rubber Wellies, The Savage Jim Breen, Travis Oaks, The Radioactive Grandma, Louisiana 6, to name a few.

A mixture of artists from far flung places just passing through on tour and artists who consistently return to perform at the Café Sessions makes this part of the staple diet of artists and audience alike. If you haven’t tried the Sessions already, come along and bring your friends, you won’t be disappointed! And if you’re up for a really late night you can always join the Irish Trad Sessions in Blessing's Bar across the road which start almost immediately afterwards.

Visit cavanarts.ie for updates and/or subscribe to the e-bulletin by emailing cafesessions@gmail.com. Café Sessions is supported by Cavan Arts Office and the Anglo Celt.
