Experiences of Being a Young Leader
This edition, we’re featuring the experiences of some Young Leaders.  They are a user group who work closely with frontline staff and 4YP managers who, among other things, help deliver our activities and consult with other young people on issues that affect them.
One Young Leader told us: “While being a Young Leader I have been learning new skills, such as being able to work part of a team, improving on my listening and communication skills.  Also being part of Young Leaders we get chance to have our voices heard.
“Within one year my confidence levels have changed so much from being shy
and not liking talking out loud within a group to standing in front of everyone and sharing my ideas.  Everyone in the group has noticed how my confidence has changed.”
These fantastic pieces of artwork (right and below) further explain how being involved with 4YP and Young Leaders has helped them.
Three Young Leaders worked together to tell us more:
“We started out as young people coming to 4YP, being supported and helped in different ways.  This made us want to help other young people and become more involved at 4YP.
“Having gone though the process of applying, being interviewed,  and trained to
become Young Leaders, it has given us more responsibilities, better communication skills, and learnt how to plan events, e.g. the Summer Programme.
“We feel this has shown us what we can achieve, become better people, learn new skills, gain work experience, and become more mature.”
Poem: Extract from 'Sticks and Stones'
I can feel the wind blowing through my hair, it carries the pain away
The grass brushes against my hand like a thousand tiny tangles comforting me
The birds are above and all around me, they are my company.
This is my piece of heaven.

Did You Know...?
During the summer months, it’s important to keep hydrated.  Did you know:
  • “travel, hot weather, and exercise all increase the body’s need for water”;
  • sipping drinks throughout the day is the a great way to keep well hydrated;
  • water is the best and healthiest source of hydration as it contains no fat, calories, or cholesterol.

4YP in Statistics
In 2014-15, 4YP supported 12,380 young person contacts, and 1,991 (26%)  young people attended for the first time.
Victoria’s Fundraising NightRider Success
Victoria Whight cycled through central London overnight on 06/07 June 2015 and raised an incredible £1,057.50 in support of 4YP’s services.
Having done months of training, Victoria complete the 100KM route in an impressive 5 hours and 59 minutes, beating her target.
Her training really paid off.  Taking up regular running, cycling, and Pilates in London where she lives, Victoria gained the strength, endurance, and increased breathing capacity she needed to complete this challenge.
What a great ambassador for healthy lifestyles!
“I have noticed a massive difference in my physical and mental wellbeing, and it is great to get outside!”
Community fundraising is so important to the continuation of our support for young people.
All of us at 4YP wish to thank Victoria for taking part in the NightRider.  We know it wasn't easy, but the money she has raised will really make a difference.
Did You Know...?
30 minutes of cycling a day improves heart health;
  • "Cycling builds strength all over the body, and as your core muscles improve, so does your balance”;
  • It helps you get fit for FREE!  No gym membership required.  No travel expenses.  4YP even has a bike young people can borrow;
  • Everyone can enjoy cycling.  It is becoming more popular for those with muscle weakness and disabilities.  Tricycles, hand cycles, and clubs for visual impaired cyclists makes the activity really inclusive.

Summer Celebrations
Love is in the air at 4YP!
Best wishes to the THREE team members looking forward to their  respective weddings this summer.
Congratulations also on the birth of a healthy baby daughter heralding the newest member of the 4YP ‘family’.  She is now our youngest supporter, with her very own mini 4YP t-shirt.
Thank You for Your Support
East of England Co-Op Token Scheme
Thanks to the East of England Co-op for giving us the opportunity to take part in their new in-store Token Scheme within recent months.  The support of their members resulted in the Co-op making a donation of £300 to 4YP.

Foresters' School Packs
Thanks to local company Foresters for donating around 50 schools packs, including collapsible water bottles that have been of great use to young people during our Summer Programme.

Woodbridge Town Council Grant
Suffolk Young People’s Health Project continues to experience incredibly high demand for counselling.  We are grateful for the support we have received from Woodbridge Town Council towards this service.

Brinor Staff BBQ
We would like to thank local freight company Brinor International Shipping & Forwarding Ltd. for raising a wonderful £125.62 for 4YP at their staff summer BBQ in July.  Our gratitude extends to Angela, Tijen, and Christina for planning and organising the fundraiser.  We now look forward to Angela’s sponsored triathlon in October.  Full details are available at www.4yp.org.uk/events/Triathlon.
The new girls group has begun, and so far young women are really enjoying it, with new faces each week and new friendships emerging.
One week, the young women made logos and came up with names for their group.  “4YG” was decided - For Young Girls!
Quotes from some of the young women attending the group:
“I’m looking forward to coming back next week”
“I’m enjoying meeting new people”
“It’s cool being able to talk to other girls about issues, as they understand.”
If you’d like to join the girl group, or for more information, call our Young People's Workers on 01473 252607 or email them at enquiries@syphp.org.uk
