Dear members and friends of HACCI

A warm welcome to the July edition of the Hermes eNews.

The Hermes eNews is a popular way for Hellenes and philhellenes to stay connected, so please share it with your family, friends, colleagues and associates.

We look forward to seeing you at a HACCI event soon!

PHILIP DALIDAKIS APPOINTED MINISTER FOR SMALL BUSINESS, INNOVATION AND TRADE

Congratulations to Philip Dalidakis MP who was appointed to cabinet as Minister for Small Business, Innovation and on Friday 31 July.

This important portfolio focuses on job creation, building innovation and bringing investment into Victoria - all critical elements for HACCI's role in promoting and strengthening the economic and cultural ties between Australia and Greece.

We look forward to working with Minister Dalidakis to strengthen the links between business, government and community.

HELEN KAPALOS VICTORIA'S NEW CHAIRPERSON OF THE VICTORIAN MULTICULTURAL COMMISSION

A second congratulation goes to Helen Kapalos who was recently announced as the new Chairperson of the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), commencing August 17 2015.

As the voice of Victoria’s culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, the VMC has an extremely important role as the main link between these communities and the government.

HACCI actively seeks to raise cultural awareness via the promotion of community focused events and activities, and this is best achieved through the support of Government and local community groups.

We look forward to engaging with Ms Kapalos and the VMC to advance the social, cultural and economic benefits of diversity.

HACCI RADIO “PRONIOS KAFES”

July saw the Proinos Kafes team team take a two-week break, but those who have been listening know that we've come back strong, featuring interviews with our good friend (and long-time HACCI supporter) George Tacticos, CEO of the Delphi Bank, as well as John Lioupas and Dimitri Bouras from the Australian Greek Welfare Society, who told us about the amazing work that they do in the community.

Last week we were joined by two legends of the AFL in Peter Daicos and Anthony Koutoufides, who both spoke passionately about the importance of the AFL's Multicultural Round for the development of footy as an inclusive, accessible and respectful league.

We hope you were able to tune in on Saturday when Tom and Alex joined forces with 3XY's John Vithoulkas and Spiros Alatsas to broadcast the station's first ever AFL game, Collingwood vs Carlton live from the MCG, as part of the AFL's Multicultural Round. Special comments were provided by Peter Maniatis, William Sheehan, and the Great Greek Adonis, Guido Hatzis, who came out of retirement to provide some sound analysis of the game and a bit of advice for Carlton coach John Barker!

A big thank you to the AFL for their invitation, the ABC for their assistance, and Delphi Bank for their support. We could not have done it without these wonderful organisations!

SBS RADIO CELEBRATES ITS 40th BIRTHDAY

On the 21st of July SBS Radio celebrated its 40th anniversary at Melbourne’s Immigration Museum.
