Circular on Ordering of Specials

We have been discussing changes to the procedures for ordering and dispensing of specials.  Once agreed a circular will be issued and we anticipate this will be effective from 1st September 2015.  Please keep an eye on our website where the latest information will be available.

Incorrect O&D Variable Payments

Payments made to contractors for the operational and development variable element were incorrectly calculated for May schedules.  Adjustments will be processed in the eSchedule for June for which contractors will be paid at the end of August.  We have contacted contractors affected by more than £200 to their detriment but If you would like further information on the effect for you, please e-mail our Pharmacy Services department or call us on 0131-4663540.

Flu EPP Payments

We have received confirmation from Practitioner Services that flu effective purchasing payments will be made to contractors at the end of August and will be detailed in the June payment schedule.

Automation of eMAS Items

From the end of August, automation of eMAS items will commence.  The ePay engine at Practitioner Services will compare the electronic prescribed and dispensed messages, which are both created in the Pharmacy.  For further information on automation, please see our recent blog post

Chronic Medication Service (CMS) Survey

CMS was launched in 2010 with the aim of allowing patients with long-term conditions to register with a community pharmacy of their choice for the provision of pharmaceutical care as part of a shared agreement between the patient, community pharmacist and general medical practitioner.  In conjunction with Strathclyde University, we are keen to obtain opinions from contractors and associate member pharmacists on the service to inform future thinking on service development and to aid discussions between CPS and the Scottish Government on the pharmacy contract.  The survey should only take 5-10 minutes to complete and we would like to thank all members who take part.

National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Pharmacy

Skills for Health is consulting on the revised Pharmacy Services suite of National Occupational Standards. The functions described by the NOS are undertaken by pharmacy technicians and some are also undertaken by pharmacy/dispensing assistants. Additionally, the NOS underpin the qualifications which enable pharmacy technicians to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).  CPS has been involved in this work to date and will be involved through to completion.  An online consultation has been launched for further comment and will close at 12pm on Friday 18th September.  We would encourage you to respond.

Yellow Card Scheme app Launch

On 14th July, an app was launched for the Yellow Card Reporting Scheme. This app can be used by patients, carers and healthcare professionals to report side effects directly to the Yellow Card Scheme to help MHRA ensure they are acceptably safe for patients.  The app is available from the itunes store or google play store for IOS or android devices.
