Cooksey Helps Open Facebook Data Center
As part of our relationship with Hillwood, AllianceTexas and the Fort Worth Chamber, Cooksey was proud to be a part of the announcement of the opening of Facebook’s new data center in Fort Worth. The billion dollar center will bring more than 40 jobs and is expected to have a massive economic impact. Facebook’s Thomas J. Furlong was joined by Governor Greg Abbott, State Rep. Charlie Geren, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price, Hillwood’s Ross Perot, Jr. and many others at the groundbreaking ceremony on July 7.
The center is the fourth in the Hillwood-owned data center campus, which includes centers for Blue Cross Blue Shield, AIG and Citigroup. The collection will bring more jobs, investments and companies to Fort Worth, which, as Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price said, puts “[the city] in an enviable position to attract global leaders like Facebook.” Fort Worth was one of 220 cities initially considered for the project. The list was eventually narrowed to 20 cities, and then again to just four – including sites in Austin and Richardson. Though the vetting process took a full year to go through, the pay-out will be significant.
“Facebook is one of the great high-tech companies of the 21st century,” Hillwood founder Ross Perot, Jr. said. “The fact that we were able to go through the Facebook process, which is very rigorous and very professional, and come out on top, shows the world that this is where you want big data centers to be. Data centers are the new steel factories … they’re the engine rooms of high-tech companies."
