Meet, See, (critically) Do
 
Around 90 musem and heritage professionals from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Germany, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Sweden and the United Kingdom participated from the 15th to 17th April, 2015 in Novi Sad in the third annual museum conference titled „Meet, See, (critically) Do“. 

The conference was organized by the Balkan Museum Network (BMN) and the Foundation Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) in partnership with the Museum of Vojvodina, Novi Sad.
Five members of the BMN have been awarded grants for museum projects
 
The Balkan Museum Network and Cultural Heritage without Borders Bosnia and Herzegovina for the third year in a row award museum projects grants. This year in a highly competitive selection and nineteen submitted applications, The Homeland Museum of Knjaževac, Museum of Apollonia Archeological Park, Museum of African Art, Zenica City Museum and Institute and Museum Bitola, have been selected. The awarded museums will implement projects around the themes of this year: Activism and Social Justice, Public Engagement and Community Voices, Building International Links and Wellbeing and Health.
The awarded grants are up to 3.000 EUR, while the BMN is each year encouraging museums to apply for a cross-border partnership by offering up to 8.000 EUR for minimum three partner museums projects.

Peacebuilding activities of the Balkan Museum Network presented in AAM Atlanta 2015 annual meeting
 
Diana Walters, international consultant, UK, Munuve Matisja, from the Community Peace Museums Heritage Foundation, Kenya, Irina Zadov, from Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, University of Illinois at Chicago, USA, and Tatjana Cvjetićanin, as a representative of the Balkan Museum Network, took part in the American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting and MuseumExpo 2015 held in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, from April 26 to April 29 2015, with a session Can We Really Help? Museums and Peacebuilding.
Topic of this year conference was The Social Value of Museums: Inspiring Change and number of colleagues considered that the work the CHwB and BMN was just that. 
 Meeting of South East European Heritage Network

The work of the Balkan Museum Network has been presented on the 12thSEE Heritage Meeting thattook placein Cetinje (Montenegro)in the period 3-5 July 2015. It has been great to discuss together with 30 representatives of NGOs dealing with heritage from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro about their work and vision for the promotion and protection of South East European heritage. One of the conclusions from the meeting is the willingness to develop further the partnership between the two thematic Networks. 5thMeeting of BMN Steering Board

BMN Steering Board meeting took place in the period 21 - 24 June 2015, in Strp near Kotor (Montenegro). The topics that were discussed concerned activities of BMN and planning for 2016. It was decided that BMN objectives for 2016 will be focusing activities to these five topics: Access and inclusivity and the social role of museums; Interpretation and communication that would put the museum collections in the context and show the multiple voices enabling museums to become the social agents; Leadership and mentorship for strengthening the middle and top museum management; The role of museums in the policy makingprocess; Risk preparedness of museums. Very exciting draft programme for the next ‘Meet, See, Do 2016’Balkan Museum Network annual conferencewas made and please reserve the date 13-15 April 2016 for the conference!

Cultural Heritage without Borders celebrates its 20th anniversary

Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB), an independent Swedish non-governmental organization dedicated to rescuing and preserving cultural heritage, celebrates its 20th anniversary. CHwB was constituted in April 1995 as a reaction to the systematic destruction of cultural monuments and objects that took place during the war in former Yugoslavia and the urgent need for development assistance and protection. Today CHwB still works in the western Balkans but also in others regions.

Crafting Access
 
Cultural Heritage without Borders Bosnia and Herzegovina is happy to announce that the beginning of the project “Crafting Access ‐ capacity building for heritage and craft-based inclusion across the western Balkans” is scheduled for 1st of September 2015.Together with Balkan Museum Network (BMN), Deaf and disabled people’s organizations across the region and individual craftspersons, CHwB BiH will in the next three years support  the  museums  and cultural organisations  across SE    Europe  to become more  inclusive    and    develop    programmes    for    inclusion    of    disabled    people. Cultural leadership for changing societies

Balkan Museum Network is one of three partners in the pilot project “Cultural leadership for changing societies - developing capacities of leaders in culture in the Western Balkans” together with  Nätverkstan from Sweden and Creative Mentorship from Serbia. This pilot project will start in August 2015 and in the next 12 months several activities will be implemented. Continuous education - Take part in the CHwB Regional Restoration Camps!
BMN members have a special opportunity to take part in the Regional Restoration Camps, organized by Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB) in Mitrovica and Prizren.The Camp in Mitrovica, in cooperation with UK-based Heritage Without Borders,focuses on conserving, documenting and interpreting museum artefacts. The application deadline has been extended only for BMN members until 31 July. Space is limited, so apply soon at: http://chwb.org/albania/news/camps-2015/

The Camp in Prizren is the first to focus entirely on heritage interpretation. Participants will go through an entire interpretation project from start to finish, covering topics such as interpretation principles, universal design, multiple voices and difficult histories, digital interpretation, creating engaging panels, and more.Apply by 31 July at: http://chwb.org/albania/news/interpretation-camp-2015/
