This year Somerset House, one of London’s most important centres for arts and culture, becomes a major new destination for the London Design Festival, showcasing an exciting programme of events during the Festival.
Within the historic setting of Somerset House will be exhibitions showcasing collaborations between internationally renowned designers and brands, a presentation of the winning entries from a competition with Twitter, an exploration of how an ancient tree can continue to have a function even after being felled and a display showing the work of the four winners of the British Land Celebration of Design awards, allowing visitors to experience a diversity of design excellence and innovation. |

The West Wing Galleries
The West Wing Galleries will host the work of an impressive list of ten internationally renowned design names, many of whom will be collaborating with a design brand to create thought-provoking and innovative room installations. Participants will include Barber & Osgerby working with Knoll, Nendo, Faye Toogood, Alex Rasmussen for Neal Feay and others. |

The River Rooms

The London Design Festival hosts the worldwide release of a new product designed by French brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and produced by Samsung.
Called Serif, the new design (top secret until its unveiling) doesn’t belong so much to the world of technology but to the world of living. |

Visitors to Somerset House will also be able to see the winning entries from a nationwide design competition called #PoweredByTweets organised by the London Design Festival with Twitter. #PoweredByTweets: The Challenge, which launched in April, invited entrants to come up with an idea that either solved a problem using Twitter or created something beautiful using Twitter data. My Grandfather's Tree by Max Lamb
The Embankment Galleries - Mezzanine & Studio

When designer Max Lamb was chopping down an ash tree that had been struck by lightning on land belonging to his grandfather, an idea began to evolve on how he might create a new life for the tree. Lamb has now divided the tree into 130 logs which will be laid out in Somerset House to form a 27m long tree, the ash tree continuing to exist but with a new function and the start of a new history. This year for the first time an exhibition will present key works from the winners of the British Land Celebration of Design Awards 2015. The winners are picked from a wide range of design disciplines and awarded for their exceptional contribution to their field. The event is supported by British Land in addition to headline support by Panerai who are also supporting the Panerai London Design Medal, as well as the PCH Design Innovation Medal and the Swarovski Emerging Talent Medal. The Global Design Forum returns for the fourth year, with a series of Masterclasses at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Each day, between the 20 - 25 September, will have a different theme: Graphics (Morag Myerscough), Luxury (Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby), Future (Yves Béhar), Makers (Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec), International (Wolfgang Buttress) and Industry (Tom Dixon).
