Summer God Stories

Last Sunday!

We all have a story to tell.  God is living in us and working through us.  Each of us has a story developing.  Are you aware of it? Do you recognize God’s Story playing out in your life?

We hope that this summer we will hear from everyone as people tell their God story.  In doing so, others will recognize that God is also working in them and have a story to tell.  It may be a dramatic life change - or it may be a small step of seeing God at the grocery story.  But by us telling our stories, we can glorify God and encourage each other to recognize God's hand in our lives - moving us to tell God’s Story.

This Sunday-Bring your favorite Bible Sunday; Share something you have in common with someone in the bible.

Sunday, August 16th at 920am in the Fellowship Hall.

Youth/Child Policy Protection Training--For all those who plan on chaperoning, leading or helping out with any event (this includes nursery volunteers) that involves children/youth ages 0-18, you MUST attend this one hour protection training.  We did amend our policy that one is to be trained every other year.   So, if you were trained in 2014, you won't need to attend this year's training.  Our last training date is this Sunday, Aug 16th at 920am in the Fellowship Hall.

in fellowship hall

For anyone not able to participate
in our most recent round of cottage gatherings

Come gather with other disciples for these wonderful times of fellowship in our homes.   We share excitement about the unfolding “Spirit-Tugs” in our lives and stories about how we have experienced or witnessed God at work over the past months.   Also, we’ll receive some updates about the Road-Widening, our 2015 Giving Goals, and all the amazing things happening among this community of disciples who bear the name of Living Springs.   Sponsored by the Lifelong Discipleship Team and our In-Touch Groups.

Sunday, September 13

Sunday, September 13 at noon right after our 10:45 service, our mission vision work is continuing to be fulfilled.  This day we will welcome strangers and open our hearts to serve an Old Fashioned Sunday Dinner to homeless, vets, women & children in shelters, seniors, Meals on Wheels clients, and our campus ministry youth. The areas that we need volunteers for are:  set-up & clean-up, cooking, serving, driving the bus & personal transportation and of course…baking desserts!  After serving the meal, volunteers will sit down and break bread with these people and share how God works in our lives.  There is a sign-up sheet in the administration building and there will also be a message sent out for you to sign up online. For information, contact Karen Kranz.

Lessons for Sunday, August 16

First Reading: Proverbs 9:1-6

Wisdom is portrayed as a woman who invites people to partake of her banquet. Just as ordinary food is necessary for physical life, Wisdom’s food—insight and understanding—is necessary for fullness of life with God. Partaking of Wisdom’s banquet is the way to life.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 34:9-14

Those who seek the Lord lack nothing that is good. (Ps. 34:10)

Second Reading: Ephesians 5:15-20

True wisdom integrates our new reality in Christ with our Christian fellowship and daily conduct. Because we are filled with the Spirit, Christians regularly rejoice together, give thanks to God for one another, and care for one another. In this way we revere our Lord Jesus Christ.

Gospel: John 6:51-58

In John’s gospel, the feeding of the five thousand leads to extended teaching in which Jesus identifies himself as the true “bread of life.” Finally, in these verses, he makes a connection that would not be understood until after his death, in light of the church’s celebration of holy communion.

A Little Church Humor...

No Excuse Sunday for Church Members
Cots will be placed in the foyer for those who say, "Sunday is my only day to sleep in."

There will be a special section with lounge chairs for those who feel that our pews are too hard.

Eye drops will be available for those with tired eyes from watching TV late Saturday night.

We will have steel helmets for those who say, "The roof would cave in if I ever came to church."

Blankets will be furnished for those who think the church is too cold, and fans for those who say it is too hot.

Relatives and friends will be in attendance for those who can't go to church and cook dinner too.

We will distribute "Stamp out Stewardship" buttons for those that feel the church is always asking for money.

One section will be devoted to trees and grass for those who like to seek God in nature.

Doctors and nurses will be in attendance for those who plan to be sick on Sunday.

The sanctuary will be decorated with both Christmas poinsettias and Easter lillies for those who have never seen the church without them.

We will provide hearing aids for those who can't hear the preacher and cotton for those who can!

Golf clubs will be available for practice swings.

Hope to see you there!
