Summer is flying by, and I can't say I'm too thrilled with that. The relaxed routine and lovely weather have been a relief of sorts. But that doesn't mean the to-do list hasn't still been plenty long!

Even as I was working on the Plus Block Round-Up in Issue 6, I knew at some point I'd need to do a round-up for 'X' blocks too. I didn't wait too long...

WHAT'S UP

As it happens in social media, one click and you've found new quilty-types to follow. Here's a couple of my recent finds:

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

Alyssa/Pile O'Fabric's Cross Stitch Block is a classic. She provides an easy tutorial using a slice-and-insert method, including measurements for 10 sizes of blocks. I kind of fell in love with it and made my own scrappy quilt. [pileofabric]

The Raspberry Kiss block by Rachel/Wooden Spoon Quilts has been a super popular one, and you'll find oodles of lovelies under Ig's #raspberrykissblock hashtag. Rachel gives cutting directions for 2 block sizes plus loose instructions for creating a darling pillow. Again, I was inspired, and upsized the block for the Faith Circle quilt mentioned above. [rachelwoodenspoon]

Ellyn/ellyn's place loves paper piecing, and smitten with Rachel's Raspberry Kiss, went so far as to create her own version in a English Paper Pieced Kisses Block. Be sure and click through to see her finished project! [ellynz]

The Tic Tac Toe block was created by Alyce/Blossom Heart Quilts in her on-going quilt block tutorial series, The Bee Hive. You'll find some fine examples of the Tic Tac Toe plus other striking blocks under the #thebeehivequilts hashtag. [blossomheartquilts]

Terri Ann/Childlike Fascination's Cross-Cut Block was made for the Boston Modern Quilt Guild’s block of the month.  It begins like a court house step block then an x is added through the middle, giving it a definite impact. [terriann]

I know I already linked to my Snooze Alarm using Amy/badskirt's Wake Up Call block, a variation on her Transmission Quilt block, but the blocks are a shoe-in for this round-up, and I'm kinda smitten. Check out Amy's Instagram feed [badskirt] for her own recent quilt progress!

A GLANCE BACK

If you need even more x's, consider these oldies but goodies . . . my own Mini 'x' tutorial, and the ever-awesome combo Japanese x and + block, another winner from Amy/Badskirt.

P.S. Did anyone go to the Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show this year and see a certain Striped Orange Peel Quilt? Humble Quilts posted a photo of it, and I'd really like to read more about it and the maker. Let me know, ok?!
