Tour Gonzaga's Hemmingson Center with AIA Spokane. Located on the east side of the campus this building is a 168,000 sf replacement for the former 34,000 sf COG. Thank you Mike Wallace, AIA, of Bernardo|Wills for coordinating this tour.

Join John M. Carson and Oldcastle Precast in the Central Pre-Mix Conference Room. Presentation will cover the key characteristics of carbon fiber grid reinforced precast enclosure systems versus alternate systems and help attendees understand how to achieve design and performance objectives, meet new energy efficient “CI” and code objectives, while providing reduced C02 footprint and increased resilient commercial construction. This year they’ve added a Regional Award, which celebrates architecture located within their component boundaries that has been designed by architects outside of their boundaries. AIA Webinar: Internship, Testing and Registration Aug 19, noon-1pm PDT: A briefing on licensure topics relevant to interns, supervisors and architects. Presenters from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) will review the steps to licensure, highlight other career programs, describe how IDP has streamlined, and preview ARE 5.0 changes to occur in late 2016. An outcome of AIA National’s Repositioning initiative requires all AIA state components to submit a Memorandum of Understanding by year end 2015 specifying how all their components will work together to best serve all AIA members within that state.  States that cannot develop such an MOU will not receive an allocation of Member Service Revenues monies from AIA National starting in 2016. The Architecture for Health Panel (AHP) seeks to fill a 2016 board position for an Affiliate AHP member from Washington. The AHP Board consists of five Architect members (from Washington or Oregon) plus two affiliate members (one from each state) who are engineers, contractors, interior architects, vendors, Owner's representatives, or similar professionals who are closely involved in healthcare design.  For information about the selection process please contact Kimberly Ritter, 2015 AHP Chair.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released a new Built Environment Assessment Tool. The BE Tool measures the core features and qualities of the built environment that affect health, especially walking, biking, and other types of physical activity. Every year, AIA reviews one section of its Public Policies and Position Statements directory. This year, the AIA is considering revisions to the first section of the directory, entitled The Architect. As an AIA leader, your input is a vital part of the review process. Please take this survey to offer feedback on the proposed changes. The deadline to participate is September 15, 2015.
