Thank You

Vicar Marty says Thank you thank you for the generous gifts I found on my desk Sunday. I got gift cards to restaurants, gum, pens, notebooks, highlighters, the whole shooting match!   Your gifts were like God’s grace- completely undeserved, but wholly needed and welcome.  You certainly have the gift of hospitality.  Everyone at Living Springs has helped my husband Ron and me know that we are part of your family.  I appreciate all your introductions, and I have just one request:  Keep on wearing your nametags so that I can learn your names!
Peace in Christ
Vicar Marty

Summer God Stories

Sundays through August 16th!

We all have a story to tell.  God is living in us and working through us.  Each of us has a story developing.  Are you aware of it? Do you recognize God’s Story playing out in your life?

We hope that this summer we will hear from everyone as people tell their God story.  In doing so, others will recognize that God is also working in them and have a story to tell.  It may be a dramatic life change - or it may be a small step of seeing God at the grocery story.  But by us telling our stories, we can glorify God and encourage each other to recognize God's hand in our lives - moving us to tell God’s Story.

This Sunday -Apostles’ Creed; I believe in God, Jesus, & the Spirit…..how does this change your daily living?

AUG 16-Bring your favorite Bible Sunday; Share something you have in common with someone in the bible.

Living Springs Summer Music Moments in Faith

Has there been some moment in your journey of faith and life when the Spirit has used music to uplift, strengthen, or speak to you?   Something from camp or youth group or a traditional worship time or the Christian music world?
During our summer worship services, we will have a series of Music Moments in Faith for disciples to share such experiences.   We are not asking folks to sing or perform (although you possibly could share an excerpt or verse) - but rather offer a brief “temple talk time” to share your faith music experience.   Depending on the nature of the piece, it may be possible to perform or play a small recorded excerpt or display words of a verse for everyone.  The Music Moment in Faith should be no longer than 3 minutes.  While God does work through all types of music, we are particularly focusing here on various forms of music of faith (not secular pieces).

If interested in sharing a Faith Music Moment, please contact Worship Chairperson, Jim Zieche, along with a description of your Faith Music Moment.   Everything will need to coordinated and prepared ahead of time.   We plan to schedule Faith Music Moments for the entire summer, concluding with Rally Day on August 23.

May the Spirit continue to inspire our journeys of faith with God’s gift of music, in all its amazing variety!

Lessons for Sunday, August 9

First Reading: 1 Kings 19:4-8

First Kings chapter 18 describes the contest between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. The contest proves that the Lord is God; and afterwards Elijah orders the killing of the Baal prophets. Angered by the deaths of her prophets, Queen Jezebel threatens to kill Elijah. This reading finds Elijah fleeing, fatigued, and in utter despair.

Psalm (ELW): Psalm 34:1-8

Taste and see that the Lord is good. (Ps. 34:8)

Second Reading: Ephesians 4:25-5:2

Christians are called to be imitators of God. This does not mean Christians are perfect. Rather, the Spirit is at work in our lives so that our actions and attitudes genuinely reflect the love and forgiveness we have received through Christ and his death.

Gospel: John 6:35, 41-51

After feeding more than five thousand people in the wilderness, Jesus teaches them regarding the true significance of this remarkable sign.

A Little Church Humor...

Cowboy Joe was telling his fellow cowboys back on the ranch about his first visit to a big-city church.

"When I got there, they had me park my old truck in the corral," Joe began.

"You mean the parking lot," interrupted Charlie, a more worldly fellow.

"I walked up the trail to the door," Joe continued.

"The sidewalk to the door," Charlie corrected him.

"Inside the door, I was met by this dude," Joe went on.

"That would be the usher," Charlie explained.

"Well, the usher led me down the chute," Joe said.

"You mean the aisle," Charlie said.

"Then, he led me to a stall and told me to sit there," Joe continued.

"Pew," Charlie retorted.

"Yeah," recalled Joe. "That's what that pretty lady said when I sat down beside her."
