MY DAY WITH 'ROWDY' RODDY PIPER
Like most everyone, we were saddened to learn of former professional wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper’s death last week at the age of 61. In his heyday, Rowdy Roddy was as big as it gets; one of the greatest entertainment villains of all time. Even in the era of Hulk Hogan, Piper was considered the most charismatic star in professional wrestling. He was a cheap shot artist who loved to trash talk.
In 1991, Growing Bolder Founder Marc Middleton, who was a local sports anchor at the time, was invited to interview Piper about his upcoming role in a television show. Marc had no interest in promoting the show; he only wanted to play and Piper was game. He appreciated something other than the typical questions from the local sports guy. This hilarious video is the result.
"While many superstars give you nothing more than canned responses, nothing more than they have to, Rowdy gave me this and I’ve always admired him for it," Marc recalls.
