HQP Workshop on IMPROV-ing communications a roaring success!

On July 22nd, BioFuelNet held a workshop for HQP/grad students combining science communication techniques and improvisational theatre, which was a great kickoff to our Advanced Biofuels Symposium. The workshop was was wildly successful, very interactive and lots of fun. The participants learned some very useful skills  The Montreal Gazette spent the day and wrote a fabulous article that was very prominantly featured. They also created a great summary video. Check out what our crazy biofuels scientists were up to!
BioFuelNet HQP featured in North American Clean Energy Magazine

North American Clean Energy Magazine has published a the BioFuelNet Success Story,“Putting Waste to Work”, which features BioFuelNet HQP Garret Munch. In this story, he explains how he is using microbes to produce biodiesel from waste. A BioFuelNet exchange grant enabled Munch to spend eight weeks in Dr. Rehmann’s lab, where he ramped up his production scale to a 100-L pilot-scale reactor system. Read the full story here.
BioFuelNet researchers featured in La Presse

Congrats to our researchers Patrice Mangin from Université du Quebec à Trois Rivières and Evelyne Thiffault from Université Laval, who were featured in an article in La Presse. They discuss a unique biorefinery that may be built in La Tuque, Quebec  in 2020. It would convert forestry residues and waste into biodiesel. This biorefiney could satisfy between 2.3% and 4.3% of the total consumption of diesel in the province of Quebec. Read the full article here (in French).
Please complete: BFN renewal survey

BFN was funded for 5 years (2012-2017), and our renewal documents are due in less than year (click here for more information on the renewal). To help get us started, we are seeking preliminary input on our new Phase II structure. Please take a few minutes to complete our 9-question survey. Your input is extremely valuable to us! Winner announced for BioFuelNet Twitter contest

Congratulations to Vijai Sookrah who won the BioFuelNet Twitter contest where biofuels scientists had to describe “So what do you do?” in 140 characters. Vijai had the most likes and retweets. See the top 10 tweets here!

We thank all the students and researchers who participated! The goal of the contest was to get our researchers and grad students thinking about how they communicate science to the general public.
