Register for Our Programs

Fall and winter sessions just announced

Did you know that the CPAA Recreation, Sport and Leisure Programs are inclusive, which means they are open to all members within the age categories regardless of ability?

We offer art and dance programs, yoga or cooking programs, and even a therapeutic gardening one. Here's some information about our fall and winter sessions:
  • A new 10-class fall session of Art FUNdamentals will begin on August 27th in Calgary. We still have several seats available for registration in our Thursday program at Calgary’s Rotary Challenger Park. Join professional artist Tammy Fischer as she leads the class in painting, drawing, tactile, and many other projects.
  • Do you have an aspiring little yogi in the family? We are accepting registrations for our ‪YogaBees program in Edmonton! Siblings are welcome.
  • Calling all little artists in Edmonton! Join us for our Scribbles & Giggles art program where kids can get creative, meet new friends and have fun.
  • Registration for Dance Without Limits for the fall and winter sessions in Edmonton is open. This dance class is facilitated by a dance instructor and a physical therapist.
For details about all our programs, visit www.cpalberta.com.

It's time to Step It Up for a great cause!

We are less than a month away from our annual health and wellness event, Steptember 2015! We are in the process of mailing out the pedometers that will record your steps this September. If you haven't registered yet, you should! This is a great opportunity to get active, develop sustainable healthy habits, and to have some friendly competition amongst your friends, family and co-workers. Steptember is suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Your challenge is to take 10,000 steps every day from September 2nd to September 29th. Over 40 activities can be converted into steps so for example swimming, wheeling a manual wheelchair and yoga all count towards your daily step total.

Steptember isn't just about improving your health and well-being, it's also about helping others. By raising funds throughout the challenge you'll be making a difference and improving lives of people with cerebral palsy.

Register now at www.steptember.ca and spread the word to all your friends and co-workers!
You can contact Ric Blackwell at 403-219-3617 or rblackwell@cpalberta for further details.

Are You Up for the Challenge?

This is Lovepreet. She loves reading, working out and riding her bike. She works at the SilverCity CrossIron theatres In Airdrie. She’s fairly independent although she does need a walker to walk, and as you can see she rides a trike. She’s 34 and has cerebral palsy.

Carlos spent 15 years working hard in physiotherapy and it paid off. He's now able to walk with crutches, as well as swim, sit-ski, and ride a bike.

Lovepreet and Carlos are looking forward to the Life without Limits Challenge this year. Lovepreet is training to complete the 20 km bike ride at the event in Calgary while Carlos will be participating in the Edmonton event. “The race is fun, camaraderie and a bit of exercise,” he shares. “The real challenge is to grow the awareness of cerebral palsy around the world."

Read the stories of Lovepreet and Carlos on our website and register today to join them in the 9th annual Life without Limits Challenge! This fun, family friendly event will take place in Calgary on Saturday, September 19, at Fish Creek Provincial Park, and in Edmonton on Sunday, September 20, at Gold Bar Park.

Challenge is a great event for people of all ages and abilities to come together and have fun while raising funds and creating awareness for individuals with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. Enjoy a BBQ lunch, entertainment, and local vendors. Prizes will be awarded for fundraising, largest team, most enthusiastic & more!  Find out more and register on our website.

Edmonton Annual Members' Picnic

Almost 100 of our Edmonton based members and their guests enjoyed a bright sunny day on July 26, 2015 at the Annual Members' Picnic at Emily Murphy Park. It was really great to connect with friends and families and have a ton of fun.

We had two very special guests joining us, Shelia and Leon with McMan’s “Dawg Wagon”. They were a huge hit, cooking up some of the most delicious gourmet Hot Dogs ever! A special thank you to Sheila and Leon for their help and culinary skills.

Participate in a Research Study

The University of Calgary and the Alberta Children’s Hospital are looking for children aged 7-17 with cerebral palsy to take part in a research study. The main objective of this study is to determine if standing on a vibration therapy platform improves muscle power and function in patients with CP.

Each child has to meet some criteria to be included in the study. For example, the child should not have had orthopaedic surgery in the past year or an untreated fracture in the past six months. Download the flyer or contact Christopher Newell at 403-955-2631 or cnewell@ucalgary.ca for further information.
Celebrate World CP Day with Us

This year, we will be celebrating the World Cerebral Palsy Day at our Empowering Alberta event. The 2015 Empowering Alberta event will take place in Calgary on October 7.

All proceeds will be donated to the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta.
