Development Feature: Pilot Sound Industrial
Oil prices may be experiencing turmoil but the doesn't mean that the industrial market is suffering in Edmonton. Edmonton Journal's Lamphier wrote in July about the Walton Group of Companies  "increasing its sizeable local industrial property holdings". One of such properties is Pilot Sound Industrial.

About Pilot Sound Industrial:
  • The Pilot Sound Industrial Park is located in the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park (“EETP”) in northeast Edmonton.
  • The property consists of 437.02 acres of industrially zoned land for the development of 974,350 square feet of building space. Blocks 1 and 2 are expected to be available for development by November 2016.
Learn more about Pilot Sound Industrial Park.

Key Selling Propositions:
  • Excellent access to raw materials and key markets, U.S. and Mexico.
  • Part of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, Canada’s largest hydrocarbon processing region.
  • Access to a skilled labour force with the highest productivity rate in Canada.
  • Close proximity to existing transportation, communities and related amenities.
About the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park:

The EETP is planned as an eco-industrial development, which will promote sustainability by encouraging the sharing of bi-products, using cleaner energy sources, reducing water use and waste, preserving natural areas and implementing sustainable building practices.

About Walton:

The Walton Group of Companies (“Walton”) is a family-owned, multi-national real estate investment and development group concentrating on the research, acquisition, administration, planning and development of strategically located land in major North American growth corridors. With more than 30 years of experience, Walton has a proven track record of administering land investment projects, including 21 development projects currently underway. Walton takes a long-term approach to land development, building communities for today and tomorrow. Our developments are comprehensively designed in collaboration with local residents for the benefit of all community stakeholders.

In Edmonton, Walton is actively involved in the development of three industrial parks, Stony Industrial Park in west Edmonton, Pilot Sound Industrial in northeast Edmonton’s EETP, and as part of a joint venture with the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) and WAM Development Group in northwest Edmonton’s Henday Industrial Park.

Walton is also actively developing 6 residential communities in Edmonton, including: McConachie, VITA at Crystallina Nera, Hawks Ridge at Big Lake, Henley Heights at Secord, Woodhaven – Edgemont, and Marquis (scheduled to open in late-2016).

Edmonton continues to be a stronghold for Walton in our development activities. Despite the noticed decline in certain economic indicators, consumer interest and activity continues to hold strong the Edmonton marketplace.

NAIOP Canadian Sustainability Blog

A fundamental pillar of NAIOP’s mission is to advance responsible development. The Canadian chapters of NAIOP are pleased to provide the Canadian Sustainability Blog as a forum through which all professionals involved in commercial real estate can become more informed and engaged in the evolving arena of sustainable or “green” development. Case studies and relevant articles are posted to the site, providing a convenient way to stay current on the information surrounding sustainability.

Now on the blog, Graeme Silvera, VP of Retail Development at Ivanhoé Cambridge, is sharing about the redevelopment at Oakridge Mall in Vancouver. Though the redevelopment is a grand ambitious project, it endeavors to bring the development down to a more human scale to demonstrate how sustainability works from the ground rather than just in green buildings. The four Canadian Chapters of NAIOP are pleased to make this video available on the
NAIOP Canada Sustainability Blog.

Be sure to check back often and contribute content as you come across it!
