This week’s meditations are from Mary Albert Darling, co-author with Tony Campolo of The God of Intimacy and Action and Connecting Like Jesus.

Thomas Keating, in The Mystery of Christ, claimed that our “false” self—our self outside of God--adjusts “to the circumstances of the spiritual journey as long as it does not have to change itself.”  That’s a scary thought, especially since the world desperately needs changed people to bring God’s Reign on earth. In Lamentations we find a way out of this stagnation:

“Let us test and examine our ways, and return to the Lord.”
--Lamentations 3:40

We can test ourselves through the ancient spiritual practice of the prayer of examen, daily asking the Spirit to show us when we are walking with God and when we are not, and then being receptive to what the Spirit shows us. http://www.ignatianspirituality.com/ignatian-prayer/the-examen
