Life is but a Vapor

After attending the funeral of someone in our sending church, I was reminded last week of how short life can be and how many times we take certain people and things for granted. We need to use the time God gives us to make our days count for eternity. Are we investing in the temporal or eternal?

Going back to Peru

We will be flying down to Lima on Wednesday, September 16th. We are looking forward to returning, seeing the people in Peru and getting involved directly into the ministries there. We were able to get some good tickets flying out of Raleigh, NC, with JetBlue. Since JD is starting college at BJU, we will be driving down to SC, leaving our van with him, renting a van to drive to Raleigh on Tuesday. Wednesday, we will depart Raleigh around 11:30am, fly to Fort Lauderdale, FL, before leaving to Lima. We should be arriving around 10:30pm, Lima time (11:30pm Eastern Daylight Savings time). Please be in prayer for safety during the travels and that our luggage will arrive without complications.

Upon our Arrival

We will be staying in the home of another missionary family who is on furlough until November. This will give us some time to look for a place to rent. There are many things that will need to be done as we get back:

  • Get necessities out of storage including the rest of the girls' homeschool books and materials
  • Buy groceries
  • Start our Peruvian visa process
  • Get our van repaired - We are taking a new fuel pump for it.
  • Pick up our dogs, Lucky and Oreo
  • Start preaching at Huaycan on Sunday, September 20th
  • Start working with Monterrico Christian School on Monday, September 21st
  • Begin teaching at Fetzer on Thursday, September 24th
  • Restart Transformers youth group on Thursday, September 24th.

Please be in prayer for us and especially Debbie during this time. Packing and storing things here, unpacking and organizing things there, change of weather, and lots to do can lead to her overdoing it and paying the consequences afterwards. We do praise the Lord that Debbie will be able to continue interacting with her doctor here via Skype and other electronic means. Please pray that she will continue to improve and that God will give us wisdom each step of the way.

Recycling Smartphones and Tablets

If you have any off-contract, unlocked smartphones or tablets that are starting to collect dust, would you consider donating them? These devices can be great tools for pastors. In order for the phones to work in Peru, they would need to be GSM unlocked. Some devices that I know will work include:

  • AT&T iPhones or Android that are unlocked
  • T-mobile iPhones or Android that are unlocked
  • Verizon iPhones 4s or newer
  • Any iPad or Android tablet

If you have any questions, just email me at jeff@surrett.org. Used devices can be sent to:

"For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness.  Colossians 1:9-11
