Emotional Intelligence is a key learning for project managers and project leaders. Emotional intelligence is the ability to monitor one’s own and others feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to  use this information to guide one’s thinking and action.  With a deeper understanding of aspects of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness or group awareness and relationship-management, a project manager will be able to provide leadership and inspire project teams to meet project objectives. In this KSS,  Anthony Mersino’s EI method is elaborated and role of EI in successful with large and complex projects is explained with some practice examples

About Mr. VTCS Rao 

Mr. Rao is post graduate in Engineering with nearly 28 years of experience in executing EPC(m) and FEED projects related to Oil and Gas, Power, Steel and Industrial sectors.  His Execution experience includes hands on design engineering in the early career to Project Management of large capital projects in US, Canada, Australia, Nigeria and India.  Mr. Rao is well familiar with the Implemented Industry best practices of Project Management such as those from CII (Construction Industry Institute, Texas) applied to large capital projects. He is certified PMP, Risk Management Professional from Project Management Institute, USA and has been responsible for risk management in International projects.  The projects he worked include those of the Fortune 100 client companies like Shell, EXXON and Indian Oil.  Mr. Rao has also started an Engineering and Construction forum within PMI Chennai Chapter to share and collaborate on finding solutions to the issues pertaining to Engineering and Construction Industry.

Mr. Rao has also mentored Engineering Managers and Project Managers on all aspects of project delivery including critical aspects of material management, risk management and multi-centre / multi-cultural / multi-year execution issues.  Mr. Rao is currently holding Director - Operations position in Foster Wheeler India Private Limited and is responsible for process, engineering, procurement, construction, fired heaters and project management departments of the Foster Wheeler India Operations.  Prior to Joining Foster Wheeler Mr. Rao held various management positions in Fluor Daniel India and VAI India
